Dr. Jerry Bergman has taught biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry, anthropology, geology and microbiology at the college and university level for over 40 years. He has over 900 science publications to his credit, in twelve languages. He has published 30 books and monographs and been a consultant for over 20 science textbooks. He appeared on Crosstalk to discuss his latest book, "Hitler and the Nazi Darwinian Worldview". It is subtitled, "How the Nazi Eugenic Crusade for a superior race caused the greatest holocaust in world history."Can someone just write Dr. Bergman off as an individual who has created a "straw-man" argument because he links a Darwinian worldview to Hitler? The answer to this is an emphatic "no" because Dr. Bergman's book, which has over 1,000 footnotes, was based upon his personal work in examining the writings of Adolph Hitler and his close associates.
In addition, Dr. Bergman also pointed listeners to the book, "Deadly Medicine" put out by the World Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. It documents the relationship between Darwinism, the holocaust and World War II.
Dr. Bergman carefully noted that Hitler's idea of a master race came indirectly from Darwin; that we have no evidence that he read Darwin's works which may have been due to the fact that they were in English and Darwin was British. Clearly, however, the idea came from scientists within Germany such as Ernst Haeckel who relied upon Darwin.
Darwinists were not overt racists; however, they clearly held the idea that some races were superior to others which is the basis for evolution. As Dr. Bergman noted, if all races were equal there’d be nothing for evolution to select from.
