Twila Brase is the President of Citizens' Council for Health Freedom. Twila is a public health nurse and a health care freedom advocate who has been informing listeners of crucial health issues pertaining to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (known as Obamacare) and is deeply concerned about patient privacy issues.Jim began by referencing a Newsmax article that said that Obamacare has cost 30.8 billion dollars so far and 111.4 million hours to complete the various types of paperwork involved.
January 1, 2014, is the date when Obamacare is to be fully implemented. In fact, on October 1st of this year we're supposed to be able to get online and find one of these exchanges and purchase coverage.
Overall, Obamacare is basically healthcare via a national IT infrastructure. The critical structural pieces of Obamacare include the health insurance exchanges connecting the state governments with the federal government. 17 states have said "yes" to building a state based exchange. These are just the federal exchange with a state name and will be state funded. 33 have said "no" and they will default to the federal exchange.
Twila also mentioned that within the 33 states mentioned, there are 7 states that have said they will partner with the government in what's called a "partnership exchange." In this case the state has a storefront website with the federal government handling the "back office" operations.
Could the exchanges fail? According to Twila, if they do, there will be no Obamacare. If they don't fail and you don't have employer supplied insurance, are there any options outside of Obamacare? Twila answers these questions and more on this critical edition of Crosstalk.
