Dr. David Stevens is the Chief Executive Officer of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, the nation's largest faith based organization of doctors. He is the spokesman for 16,000 doctors.Possibly in an attempt to obscure the truth, Dr. Stevens reported that the phrase the media is using for the process of cloning is Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. A somatic cell is any cell in the body other than a sperm or an egg. Nuclear refers to where the chromosomes are. Transfer refers to taking the chromosomes out of the cell and sticking it into an egg after taking its nucleus out, zapping it with electricity and causing that to develop into the type of cells you're trying to copy.
Due to the creation of genetic defects, embryonic stem cell research has been an enormous failure. In spite of that, last week it was announced that scientists have been able to create human embryos, sacrifice them and create embryonic stem cell lines. This seems to be unnecessary because science has seen great success with induced pluripotent stem cells, umbilical cord blood stem cells, amniotic fluid stem cells and bone marrow stem cells.
