“White, Suburban Moms?”
Todd Cefaratti, Editor of TPNN — Remember in 2012 when the Democrats pretended that to be against government-provided birth control was, somehow, a “war on women?” They hammered on this point over and over again and declared the Republican Party was a group dedicated to misogyny and were vehemently anti-women because they raised questions over government-subsidized birth control and abortion procedures.Now, the Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has voiced his disdain for “white, suburban moms” who oppose Common Core and the left has not even uttered a peep to try and condemn the remarks.
On Friday, Duncan spoke at the Council of Chief State Schools Officers Organization in Richmond, Virginia, and discussed the Common Core standards that have millions of parents concerned. Common Core has been criticized as it broadly attempts to create a one-size-fits-all curriculum that places a greater emphasis on what children should be learning on the federal government’s curriculum. In doing so, it leaves less room for teacher prerogative and custom-tailoring for students.
However, most dangerous in the eyes of many parents is the politically-charged messaging found in Common Core that remains at-odds with the concept of a politically-neutral learning environment. Countless examples of Common Core indoctrination have arisen with students learning of American rights through the prism of organized labor strikes and learning grammar while being taught that is is the duty of all Americans to obey the government.
Addressing this sort of criticism, the head of the Department of Education, a bastion of liberal indoctrination for decades, responded,
“It’s fascinating to me that some of the pushback is coming from, sort of, white suburban moms who — all of a sudden — their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were, and that’s pretty scary,” Duncan said. “You’ve bet your house and where you live and everything on, ‘My child’s going to be prepared.’ That can be a punch in the gut.”“White, suburban moms?” What is Duncan’s implication in his dismissive attitude towards “white, suburban moms?” That their concerns are, somehow, less valid than minority or inner-city voices? That mothers who are voicing serious concerns over Common Core standards should be ignored because they are supposedly privileged?
Overcoming that will require communicating to parents that competition is now global, not local.”
Duncan’s smearing of concerned parents is atrocious and his remarks, infused with racial and classist undertones, speaks volumes about the Department of Education and their priorities.
The White House was given an opportunity to clarify whether they agree with Duncan’s assessment, but White house Spokesman Jay Carney did his typical dodging in responding to questions.
“If his point was that we need to be honest with kids and parents about whether we’re providing the skills they need to succeed, I think we can all agree on that,” Carney said. “So, again, I haven’t had a discussion with the president about that, but I think the broader point that we need to be honest about whether we’re providing the skills these — our children need to succeed, I think we can agree on that.”A reporter also asked if it was “appropriate” for Duncan to single out white mothers in his rebuttal, but Carney again refused to answer the question, saying,
“I can just tell you that the secretary of Education and everybody on the president’s team dedicated to this effort is focused on making sure that we do everything we can, working with states and others, to ensure that our kids are getting the education they need for the 21st century.”This is, by no means, the most outlandish thing to come out of the Obama Administration. On a near-daily basis, this divisive administration demonstrates the kind of divisive rhetoric for which they have become known.
