WND TV, VIRAL VIDEO — The mix here is the U.S. Air Force Band, the Air and Space Museum in Washington, J.S. Bach and “Joy To the World.”
The result is a stunning flash mob performance that enchanted visitors to the museum’s Milestones of Flight gallery recently.
The project was accomplished by the military band, under the direction of Col. Larry H. Lang.
Unsuspecting visitors to the museum, including tourists and school groups, raised their eyebrows when a single cellist started with the famed melody Bach harmonized in “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.”
Soon more than 100 musicians joined, instrumentalists streaming from behind airplanes and space capsules and vocalists bursting into song from the second floor balcony.
They finished the medley with “Joy to the World.”
Bach composed “Jesu” sometime around 1720, originally scored for a full orchestra including trumpet, oboes, strings and continuo, even though it now often is performed at weddings and other Christian celebrations on organ or keyboard.
