Christopher Agee, The Western Center For Journalism — The U.S. public school system has become increasingly intolerant of American patriotism in its singular goal of embracing multiculturalism and diversity. While the mission of accepting those from different backgrounds might sound noble on the surface, the recent decision by administrators at one Colorado high school illustrates how insane the politically correct climate has become.According to reports, a group of students at Fort Collins High School – which, for those keeping track, is within the U.S. – wanted to celebrate their country with a special day during Spirit week. After proposing “Merica Monday,” a day during which students would be encouraged to wear patriotic clothing, the student organizers quickly learned their idea had been rejected.
One student recalled that administrators “said they didn’t want to offend anyone from other countries or immigrants.”
Such rationalization disregards the fact that if a family chooses to reside in America, its members should want to celebrate this nation’s rich heritage of freedom and liberty. The United States blossomed through immigration and assimilation, which created a melting pot of various ethnicities and nationalities all celebrating the unparalleled opportunity of their new home.
Today’s leftists, however, want to create a balkanized landscape of individuals clinging to their country of origin, suggesting any sign of patriotism is somehow a slight toward other cultures.
“It’s bizarre and idiotic that we’ve come to this crossroads in our society that we are having to sacrifice our own culture and belief system,” one parent explained, adding that it “got our blood boiling.”
Disappointed but undeterred, the students developed another, more inclusive theme: “My Country Monday.” Outrageously, school administrators turned down that request, too.
Perhaps the most infuriating aspect of the entire ordeal is the fact that students in the same American school are compelled to participate in May 5 Mexican celebrations. The same minds that decided this was an appropriate assignment felt a voluntary show of American pride demonstrated some sort of discrimination.
After outraged journalist Todd Starnes contacted the school, administrators relented and decided to allow “My Country Monday.” Still, the very thought of students celebrating the U.S.A. is a concept utterly foreign to those in charge of the nation’s leftist educational system.
Considering the indoctrination students are being forced to endure, there is no question that the destructive ethos of political correctness will only be more prevalent in future generations. Unless parents become involved and proactive in their children’s education, the left can and will win the future through expert use of such propaganda. » Full Article
