A GROUP of self-anointed “prophets” have gathered quite a following in the modern charismatic movement, declaring that God is revealing new things about His work. On the other side of the spectrum, certain liberal theologians are reinterpreting scripture and doctrine in ways that have never been seen in the history of the Church.Respected Bible scholar Dr. Doug Stauffer explains the difference between progressive revelation (which, contrary to those who declare that “God is doing a new thing,” ended when the biblical canon was complete) and progressive illumination, which is the ongoing study and understanding of what is in His word. Progressive illumination is a deeper understanding of the Bible; progressive revelation supercedes the Bible. That’s a major distinction.
Doug also shares a number of examples of where scripture gives us pictures of prophecy yet to be fulfilled.
