Christopher Agee, Western Journalism — Though stories of law-abiding citizens using their own firearms to stop a crime in progress are common, gun-grabbing leftists continue to suggest our society would be safer if Americans were prohibited from owning such weapons. For the patrons and owner of one Texas bar, such a narrative would likely be a tough sell.Jenny O’Donnell explained that her business, EJ’s Place, was targeted by a quartet of armed intruders early Saturday morning, just as the pub was preparing to close. Two of the men stormed inside the building and ordered everyone to the floor as the remaining two stood lookout at the front door, she said.
One lingering patron, however, was not about to give in to the thuggish demands. He reportedly drew his own gun and began firing on the prospective robbers. The gunmen returned fire, letting off at least three shots within the bar.
“That man was a hero,” O’Donnell said of the armed customer.
As of the latest report available by the Houston Chronicle, two of the armed intruders were fatally shot. One fell just outside of the bar while the other made it to the edge of the business’ parking lot. The other two, along with the quick-acting customer, left before police arrived.

There were no reports of any other injuries. O’Donnell explained that, without the patron’s decisive action, the result could have been much more tragic. “We could have had some bodies,” she said.

Authorities are reportedly looking for those involved as they continue an investigation into the incident. O’Donnell said she has released surveillance footage of the shooting to police.

Ebola, Marburg, Enterovirus and Chikungunya - these diseases were not even on the radar of most people coming into 2014, but now each one of them is making headline news. So why is this happening? Is there some kind of a connection, or is the fact that so many horrible diseases are arising all at once just a giant coincidence? And this could be just the beginning. For example, there are now more than a million cases of Chikungunya in Central and South America, and authorities are projecting that there will be millions more in 2015. The number of Ebola cases continues to grow at an exponential rate, and now an even deadlier virus (Marburg) has broken out in Uganda. We have gone decades without experiencing a major worldwide pandemic, and many people believed that it could never happen in our day and time. The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is both a danger in itself and a wake-up call for Americans – about President Obama, about the institutions of this country and, most important, about ourselves.There was a time when an outbreak of a deadly disease overseas would bring virtually unanimous agreement that our top priority should be to keep it overseas. Yet Barack Obama has refused to bar entry to the United States by people from countries where the Ebola epidemic rages, as Britain has done.
The reason? Refusing to let people with Ebola enter the United States would conflict with the goal of fighting the disease. In other words, the safety of the American people takes second place to the goal of helping people overseas.
As if to emphasize his priorities, President Obama has ordered thousands of American troops to go into Ebola-stricken Liberia, disregarding the dangers to those troops and to other Americans when the troops return.
