• President Obama refused those injured the in Fort Hood massacre to be considered victims of terrorism in spite of the fact that the shooter shouted the praises of Allah. Instead he called it workplace violence thus disqualifying the victims from receiving Purple Hearts. Congress sought to override the President’s decree through a provision in the Defense Authorization Bill and it passed with strong bipartisan support on a voice vote.
