By Colleen Conley — Due to the increasing carnage in the Middle East, as well as the rapid rise of The Islamic State in parts of Iraq and Syria, Republicans are getting itchy feet about heading back to the region to vanquish the growing threat.A February 24 headline in The New York Times captured the new spirit of hawkery: “Presidential Contenders in G.O.P. Shift Attention to Foreign Policy Issues.” As the Times noted:
Nearly three-quarters of Republicans now favor sending ground troops into combat against the Islamic State, according to a CBS News poll last week. And in Iowa and South Carolina, two early nominating states, Republicans said military action against the group was, alongside economic matters, the most important issue in the 2016 election, according to an NBC survey released last week.At the recent CPAC, virtually every 2016 Republican presidential contender included strong language in their speeches about foreign affairs in the Middle East. Rick Perry stated that, “ISIS is the worst threat to freedom since communism.”
Even Rand Paul, known for his non-interventionalist views, is hopping on the bandwagon, saying that he doesn’t completely discount the possibility of military action; he simply insists that the president should first seek Congressional approval.
Obama has famously bungled US policy in the Mid-East to an extent that coalitions of our so-called allies in the region have little to no faith in his ability to handle the increasingly perilous situations. Just last year he struggled to find a way to topple Bashar al-Assad in Syria and dismissed ISIS as the “jayvee”—junior varsity. He even supplied arms to the Syrian rebels (most likely members of ISIS), and now, in a complete reversal, he is working with the Assad regime—and Iran—to defeat, or at least contain, ISIS.
The thing about winning a war, is that you have to actually win it. This means, that victory is achieved only when the mind of the enemy is changed. As in, the enemy gives up. So, as long as the enemy is still fighting, it doesn’t really matter what the casualty levels are; if the enemy is the last man standing, the enemy wins.
Obama’s insistence on pulling troops out of Iraq, leaving a vacuum for ISIS to fill quickly was just one his American foreign policy disasters in the region.
President Bush also shares in the blame with the initiation of the ill-fated Operation Iraqi Freedom, a war which had nothing to do with 9/11, and which ousted a secular, albeit brutal Sunni-run regime and allowed a fundamentalist Shia sect, ISIS, to establish a caliphate for the first time in generations.
In a brilliant piece in the March issue of The Atlantic, What ISIS Really Wants, Graeme Wood lays out in painstaking detail how western misunderstanding of the motivations of ISIS has lead to disastrous policy decisions.The Islamic State differs from nearly every other current jihadist movement in believing that it is written into God’s script; it is this belief which most boldly separates it from its predecessors, and demonstrates the religious nature of its mission. Everything it demands of its adherents is dictated by the most conservative teachings of the Qur’an and its motivations emanate from its belief that it will play an integral role in The Apocalypse, as dictated by the prophecies.
ISIS follows the dictates of the prophecies like a rule book, all leading to the End Days. They have now completed Step 1, setting up the caliphate (or territory led by a caliph), and are working on Step 2: mass executions of Muslim ‘apostates,’ who do not adhere to their medieval interpretation of the Qur’an.
Step 3 is currently taking place as tens of thousands of foreign Muslims emigrate to The Islamic State, intending to participate in a great battle in Dabic, Syria, an area which ISIS now controls. There, says the Qur’an, the “armies of Rome” will mass to meet the armies of Islam; and that its final showdown with an anti-Messiah will occur in Jerusalem after a period of renewed Islamic conquest.Fully understanding this ideology is critical to how the US deals with ISIS. Territory is critical to the power of the caliphate; without it, it loses its power under the dictates of the Qur’an. Taking land back could diminish its power, perhaps irreversibly.
One thing is certain; our leaders must not mishandle any interventions in the region by failing to grasp the motivations of the enemy. The Islamic State eagerly awaits a great battle on the farmlands of Dabiq. Will we give them exactly what they want?...

By Jane M. Orient, M.D., of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, WND — The Obama administration was apparently shocked when the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of King v. Burwell, which challenges insurance subsidies flowing through federal exchanges. The Affordable Care Act, or ACA, clearly states that subsidies flow only through exchanges established by states.This, according to MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, was meant to be a deal the states couldn’t refuse, to “encourage” them to create an exchange. But more than 30 of them did refuse.
The administration, however, had a ready fix: The IRS just wrote a rule that allows the subsidies to flow anyway, arguing that it must be what the law really meant.
It reminds me of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta, “Iolanthe.” There was a most inconvenient law on the books: “The fairy that marries a mortal dies!” It was terrible enough that the beloved Iolanthe had broken the law. But, ultimately, when all the fairies marry members of the House of Peers, what is the fairy queen to do? “I can’t slaughter the whole company!”
The Lord Chancellor comes to the rescue. “The subtleties of the legal mind are equal to the emergency. The thing is really quite simple – the insertion of a single word will do it. Let it stand that every fairy shall die who doesn’t marry a mortal.”
The Obama administration is assuming that the court will act as Lord Chancellor, or else the Republican Congress will do so, and, therefore, has not bothered to warn anyone of the possible loss of subsidy....

He may be cunning, devious, easily given to retribution, a monstrous ideologue, an Islamic terrorist denier, and a socialist at heart. But he is not stupid.On the other hand he is not that smart. His actions betray his intellect. What he does with executive orders and lawless edicts and vetoes shows that he is more of an accomplice than a leader.
In his measured and reluctant “fight” against ISIS, Obama shows his deference to Islam. By setting aside millions of acres of prime Alaska land, land with great natural resources that America could use to grow jobs and create energy independence, the president gifts the rabid environmentalists.
Every action taken that chips away at America’s greatness has a reason. And Obama, as much as he dislikes this country, isn’t smart enough to compile the growing list of “payback” he is heaping on the United States.
Which leads to the question, “Who really benefits from what Obama does?”...
