ISRAEL TO OBAMA: WE’LL CONTINUE TO OPPOSE IRAN NUKE DEAL

A TRUTHFUL AND BALANCED PERSPECTIVE ON ISRAEL

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressing the media following the signing of the US-brokered Iran nuclear deal earlier this month.

Israel Today Staff — Israel at the weekend sent a crystal clear message to the Obama Administration that it would not be cowed into quietly accepting what it views as a naive and dangerous US-brokered nuclear agreement between Iran and the Western powers.

In remarks to the New York Times, a senior unnamed Israeli official on Saturday slammed US Secretary of State John Kerry for suggesting that the Jewish state would be blamed if Congress overturns the Iran nuke deal.

Speaking at the Council of Foreign Relations in New York last week, Kerry said that “if Congress were to overturn [the deal], our friends in Israel could actually wind up being more isolated and more blamed.”

Earlier, Kerry warned in an appearance on the American news network NBC that any Israeli military action against Iran’s nuclear program in the wake of the US-brokered deal would be a “huge mistake.”

In response to Kerry, the Israeli official said Jerusalem “rejects the threats directed at Israel in recent days. …The regrettable attempt to intimidate Israel will not prevent us from voicing our concerns about this deal, which poses direct threats to Israel’s security.”

Jerusalem insists that the nuclear deal is faulty in nearly every way, and is little more than a diplomatic stunt by an Obama Administration desperate for a foreign relations success.

Of notable concern to Israel is that the agreement does not require Iran to dismantle and dispose of the nuclear technology, facilities and material it has already developed. It also enables the Islamic Republic to avoid meaningful inspections without serious consequences.
