The biblical KING DAVID OF ISRAEL was known for his diverse skills as both a warrior and a writer of psalms. In his 40 years as ruler, between circa 1010 and 970 B.C. (before Christ), he united the people of Israel, led them to victory in battle, conquered land and paved the way for his son, Solomon, to build the Holy Temple. Almost all knowledge of him is derived from the books of the Prophets and Writings: Samuel I and II, Kings I and Chronicles I.

Many of the Republican presidential candidates have rallied behind Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Kentucky clerk, who was jailed Thursday for declining to issue marriage licenses because of her religious opposition to same-sex marriage.
The 49-year-old Davis, who’s a registered Democrat, stopped issuing marriage licenses to both gay and straight couples after the Supreme Court ruled in June that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right.
After Davis was jailed, most of her deputies began complying with a judge’s order to issue marriage licenses, but Davis has several GOP presidential contenders gathering to her corner...

By Leah Marieann Klett, The Gospel Herald — The Islamic State has issued a "safety contract" for Christians living in Qaryatian, Syria comprised of 11 specific commandments, including one which prohibits praying out loud to Jesus Christ under penalty of death.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Christians in the captured town will have to pay the jizyah or jizya tax imposed on non-Muslims, in addition to the other commandments issued by the extremist group's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The watchdog group listed the 11 stipulations, which prohibit: the establishment of churches, the displaying of crosses, making Muslims hear Christian prayers or rituals of worship, the hiding of spies, offending Islamic religious beliefs, the carrying of weapons, the sale of pork or wine to Muslims, and failing to dress modestly...

CBN NEWS — More than 30 magistrates in North Carolina have refused to perform weddings. But thanks to a new state law, they were able to do so legally.
Right after the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in June, the state passed a law allowing officials to opt out of performing all marriages.
The law exempts court officials with a "sincerely held religious objection" and is designed for those opposing gay marriage.
The law's original sponsor, Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger, said it's probably preventing situations like the one in Kentucky.
"It's keeping folks from having to choose between their job and their religious beliefs. I think that's important," he said.
Berger said so far the law hasn't caused any problems.
"I think the law is working very well," he said.
Only Utah has a similar law...
