ABSOLUTELY NO “GUN FREE ZONES” HERE
Israel Today Staff — The stabbing and other terrorist attacks just keep coming in Jerusalem, causing a great many residents to be fearful of going outdoors at all, and certainly not daring to venture into certain parts of town.Two Israelis were killed in Jerusalem’s Old City earlier this week, and many more have been stabbed and wounded since them by Arab residents responding to calls by the Palestinian Authority, Hamas and other jihadists to “liberate” the Holy Land from the Jews.
Amidst this escalating situation, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is urging all licensed residents of his city to carry their guns with them at all times.
That recommendation stands in stark contrast to the gun control movements and policies prevalent in Europe and the United States.
But Barkat knows the value of law-abiding,

“Given the current escalation in the security situation, those with a licensed firearm who know what to do with it must go out with [their weapon] - it’s an imperative,” Barkat told Army Radio. “In a way, it’s like military reserve duty.”
The mayor further explained to Israel’s Ynet news portal that “possessing weapons increases the confidence of residents, who know that in addition to police there are many people who are not afraid to intervene.”
A statement released by the Jerusalem Municipality noted that Barkat himself carries a Glock pistol at all times. Indeed, the mayor has on at least two occasions assisted in thwarting terrorist attacks and neutralizing the would-be perpetrators.
Israel’s police and army cannot be everywhere at all times, and in the past armed civilians have managed to thwart or cut short what would have otherwise been even more catastrophic terrorist incidents.

Did Abbas just trigger the war prophesied in Obadiah? The world watched and wondered as Abbas addressed the United Nationals declaring the Oslo Accords were no longer binding.The historic Oslo Accords, signed by the PLO’s Arafat and Israel’s Prime Minister Rabin in 1993, set in motion the “peace process” whereby Israel would work with the Palestinian Authority toward eventual statehood, with two states, supposedly living side by side in peace. Obviously it hasn’t worked out as planned.
Under the Accords, the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) was divided into three sections: Palestinian controlled Area A; Area B with Israeli military control and Palestinian civil control; and Israeli controlled Area C, which covers two-thirds of the West Bank where there are Jewish settlements.
Soon after the Accords were signed, the Al-Aqsa intifada began, with violence toward Israelis cited as the major cause of the plan’s breakdown, though both sides have claimed repeated violations.

Beneath the surface of a St. Louis-area landfill lurk two things that should never meet: a slow-burning fire and a cache of Cold War-era nuclear waste, separated by no more than 1,200 feet.The cause of the fire is unknown. For years, the most immediate concern has been an odor created by the smoldering. Republic Services is spending millions of dollars to ease or eliminate the smell by removing concrete pipes that allowed the odor to escape and installing plastic caps over parts of the landfill.
Directly next to Bridgeton Landfill is West Lake Landfill, also owned by Republic Services. The West Lake facility was contaminated with radioactive waste from uranium processing by a St. Louis company known as Mallinckrodt Chemical. The waste was illegally dumped in 1973 and includes material that dates back to the Manhattan Project, which created the first atomic bomb in the 1940s.
The Environmental Protection Agency is still deciding how to clean up the waste. The landfill was designated a Superfund site in 1990.
The proximity of the two environmental hazards is what worries residents and environmentalists. At the closest point, they are 1,000 to 1,200 feet apart.
If the underground fire reaches the waste, “there is a potential for radioactive fallout to be released in the smoke plume and spread throughout the region,” according to the disaster plan. » Find out more
