BY JEROME HUDSON — Pop star Taylor Swift went on a ten tweet rant Friday demanding her fellow Tennesseans help “retroactively change the status of people who perpetuated hideous patterns of racism from ‘heroes’ to ‘villains'” by removing statues of Edward Carmack and Nathan Bedford Forrest, two pro-slavery figures whom Swift failed to identify as Democrats.

“As a Tennessean, it makes me sick that there are monuments standing in our state that celebrate racist historical figures who did evil things,” Swift’s rant began. “Edward Carmack and Nathan Bedford Forrest were DESPICABLE figures in our state history and should be treated as such.”

Scientists studying the phenomenon observed that an area known as the South Atlantic Anomaly has grown considerably in recent years, though the reason for it is not entirely clear. Using data gathered by the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Swarm constellation of satellites, researchers noted that the area of the anomaly dropped in strength by more than 8 per cent between 1970 and 2020. One possibility, according to the ESA, is that the weakening field is a sign that the Earth’s magnetic field is about to reverse, whereby the North Pole and South Pole switch places.

The praise for New York Gov. Andre Cuomo’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak eventually turned to harsh criticism after he ordered nursing homes to accept coronavirus patients.
