In Wake Of Assassination Attempt
By Decision Magazine: The Republican National Convention (RNC) official sessions began On Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Franklin Graham has accepted an invitation to give the benediction on Thursday when the convention ends.
The RNC comes at a tumultuous time for the nation, as former president and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt on Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Minutes into Trump’s speech, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several rounds at Trump from an elevated position, grazing the candidate’s right ear, killing one audience member and critically wounding two others b
efore he was shot and killed by a Secret Service sniper. Authorities reportedly found explosives in Crooks’ car, as well as bomb-making materials in his home. “I thank God that former President [Trump] is alive,” Franklin posted on Facebook on Saturday night. “Our prayers are also with the others injured at the rally today and the family of the individual who was killed.”

By Joshua Arnold/Washington Stand: Three more Democratic congressmen called for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race following his Thursday night press conference, as the president is still struggling to tamp down concerns in his own party about his cognitive state.
However, a lingering question for many Democrats is: who could possibly replace Biden as the nominee (especially after they refused to seriously consider this question during presidential primary season)? Even the Biden campaign is asking this question; according to mainstream media reports, it is "quietly testing" the possibility of replacing Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Substituting a candidate is a bit more complicated than switching a pitcher, and it's not entirely clear what rules would govern such an exchange, or whether anyone would follow them. Such a move has no precedent in the modern era of presidential politics, when parties have selected their nominees through a primary election system. But then, an 81-year-old president seeking reelection is also unprecedented.
What is more straightforward are the policies, performance, and leadership Harris brings to the table, based on her record as attorney general of California, then senator, and now vice president.

The prayer also included wishes for peace in Israel and Jerusalem. This gesture was widely appreciated by various social media users, who noted the importance of such prayers in major Jewish gatherings and contrasted it with the expected reaction at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). The RNC’s action was seen as a reflection of Judeo-Christian values and a demonstration of support for Israel.

As I mentioned previously, the Trump assassination plot may have done more to save Biden than to help Trump, because it was a major story that broke up the mounting momentum among Dems to stop Biden.
Biden’s people were very nervous about the nomination even well before the debate and had planned a July virtual roll call to nominate him well ahead of the convention. The pretext for that was an Ohio ballot issue that Gov. DeWine had promised to fix, and that has now been fixed, but the virtual roll call is still moving forward. Anti-Biden Dems, which include major donors, a bunch of Obama vets, and a number of House Dems, are now urgently trying to stop the virtual roll call, but they may have as little as 96 hours.

The process will effectively begin when the rules committee of the Democratic National Convention meets on a video call at 11 a.m. on Friday, followed by another party group on Sunday. All of the more than 4,000 delegates are expected to begin casting their ballots as soon as Monday, a process that is likely to take about a week. After that, the committee is expected to quickly hold the roll call, a tradition that typically occurs on the convention floor but is being held virtually this year.Anti-Biden Dems aren’t confident of fighting the roll call, their priority is to stop it in its tracks and provide more time for their pressure campaigns to work. They will still have options once the virtual roll call takes place, but it’s going to be even harder. That’s why Biden’s people are rushing it through.
