Dr. J. Vernon McGee, Th.D.

You Donât Trifle With God
Transcript:
You donât trifle with God. You donât play church with Him. If you do, friends, then thatâs all youâre doing, youâre just playing church. God not only makes promisesâand that is covenantsâbut He keeps them. He is immutable; therefore, Heâs faithful. Heâs a God of mercy. And itâs by His mercy that He saves us. You remember Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:22: âIt is the Lordâs mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.â In other words, God is gracious, and God expects us, though, to mean business. And He expects to be obeyed.

About Church of the Open Door
Built in 1914, the 4000-seat Church of the Open Door was conceived by R. A. Torrey who had come to Los Angeles to start a Bible institute (now known as Biola University) similar to Moody Bible Institute. Other pastors have included Louis T. Talbot (1932â1948) and J. Vernon McGee (1949â1970). The church is strictly non-denominational, though Evangelical. Its mission was to reach the lost of Los Angeles, which was reflected in the name âChurch of the Open Doorâ based on two passages of Scripture:
âI am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.â - Jesus Christ, John 10:9 KJV
âI know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.â - Jesus Christ, Revelation 3:8 KJV
âI am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.â - Jesus Christ, John 10:9 KJV
âI know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.â - Jesus Christ, Revelation 3:8 KJV
