Disconnected: New Censorship Controls That Can Shut Off Your Phone & Internet

Beneath the usual political noise in Ottawa, a quiet but breathtakingly dangerous bill is winding its way through Parliament. It's called Bill C-8, and on paper, it's about "protecting Canada from cyber threats."
But in reality, it gives the federal government the power to secretly order telecom companies to cut off your phone or internet access -- not for a proven crime, not after a trial, but merely because a minister believes it is "necessary." No warrant. No notice. No chance to appeal before the switch is flipped.
Let that sink in. In the name of "security," Canada could soon have the legal authority to digitally erase any citizen -- without telling them why.

Under Bill C-8, the Minister of Industry -- working alongside the Public Safety Minister -- could order companies like Rogers, Bell, or Telus to stop providing service to any "specified person."
You wouldn't get a warning. You wouldn't even know who made the decision or why. The order could remain secret indefinitely, and you'd only discover the truth once you've already been cut off from the modern world.
Imagine waking up one morning to find your phone and internet dead -- no messages, no work login, no bank access, no job applications, no way to reach family. In today's world, that's not just inconvenient -- it's social and economic annihilation.
And the law explicitly says you get no compensation for any "errors" that might occur. Your business collapses? Your remote job disappears? Your family can't reach you? Too bad -- the government isn't liable.
This isn't some dystopian speculation. It's written in the text of Bill C-8.

Ancient 1,500-Year-Old Synagogue Unearthed In The Golan Reveals Flourishing Jewish Life In Antiquity
By Staff Writer: Yehudiya Nature Reserve, Golan Heights – October 6, 2025 — In a remarkable archaeological discovery, researchers from the University of Haifa, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, and Kinneret Academic College have unearthed a 1,500-year-old synagogue in the heart of the Yehudiya Nature Reserve in Israel’s Golan region. The find sheds new light on Jewish life in the Golan during the Byzantine period and underscores the deep, continuous connection of the Jewish people to this biblically significant land.
The synagogue, dating to roughly the 5th or 6th century CE, was uncovered during a targeted excavation following years of surveys that had documented scattered basalt architectural fragments in the area. The project, led by Dr. Mechael Osband of the University of Haifa’s Zinman Institute of Archaeology and Prof. Chaim Ben-David of Kinneret Academic College, revealed the long-sought structure after identifying an unusual concentration of column drums and decorated stones within the remains of the abandoned Syrian village of Yehudiya.
“Already at the start of the excavation, dozens of architectural fragments were uncovered, and later, to our surprise, the southern wall of the structure was revealed, with three openings facing Jerusalem,” said Dr. Osband. “This was the final confirmation that we had found the ancient synagogue itself.”
The newly discovered synagogue measures approximately 13 meters in width and at least 17 meters in length, built in the basilica style typical of ancient synagogues in the Land of Israel, featuring two rows of columns and benches along the walls. Among the many decorated artifacts uncovered were lintels, basalt columns, and ornamental stones, including fragments believed to be from the Torah ark and stones engraved with menorah motifs.
