How Putin Is Working To Erase Church In Ukraine, Twist Christianity In Service To The State

Russian tanks, missiles, and drones have destroyed homes and schools and killed more than 16,800 civilians. But they are only the visible weapons of war. Behind them is something less visible but no less consequential: Putin’s Russian Imperialism 2.0, an ideology that seeks not merely to conquer Ukrainian territory, but to erase Ukrainian identity, sovereignty, and culture. This is not just a threat to Ukraine; it is a threat to Europe and, left unchecked, to freedom everywhere.
Putin’s Russian Imperialism 2.0 borrows heavily from Soviet authoritarianism, with one important exception: the Russian Orthodox Church, which the communists persecuted, has now become an instrument of the Russian state.
Soviet communism tried to replace Christianity with the state. Putinism enlists a form of Christianity in service to the state.
In occupied Ukraine, independent religious expression is suppressed, churches closed, and religious leaders imprisoned, exiled, or worse, while the Moscow-aligned Russian Orthodox Church is privileged. Evangelical and other churches have been closed, with some sanctuaries turned into operational centers for the occupiers.

By PNW Staff: For years, conservative Christians have watched mainline denominations increasingly reinterpret Scripture through the lenses of modern sexuality, gender ideology, social justice and progressive politics. But another theological shift may be equally concerning, especially because it is beginning to appear in churches that still carry historically evangelical names.
Mysticism, interfaith spirituality, ancient paganism and speculative theories about the Bible are increasingly being blended into what is presented as Christian teaching. Instead of Scripture being the authority by which other spiritual claims are judged, outside philosophies and religious traditions are sometimes being used to reinterpret Scripture itself.
A striking example comes from Glendale Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, where co-pastor Zach Helton recently presented his congregation with an extraordinary claim: the God of Israel once had a wife named Asherah, and later religious authorities essentially erased her from the biblical story.
Helton reportedly described Asherah as a "female divine presence" worshipped alongside Yahweh and argued that King Josiah's destruction of Asherah poles and pagan shrines was less an act of spiritual reform than an attempt to consolidate religious and political power. He even lamented what Josiah's reforms supposedly meant for young Israelite girls who, in Helton's telling, were being deprived of a feminine divine figure to look up to.
There is one enormous problem with that interpretation: the Bible tells almost exactly the opposite story.

In Pennsylvania and Delaware, the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations distributed a guide this year instructing teachers to “avoid using language that validates the claims of the 9/11 attackers by associating their acts of mass murder with Islam and Muslims,” specifically naming “Islamic terrorists,” “jihadists,” and “radical Islamic terrorists” as forbidden terms. The guide’s own prose obeys its own rule. It never once uses the word “terrorism,” choosing “the 9/11 attacks,” “this tragic day,” and “acts of mass murder” instead. An organization willing to write the phrase “acts of mass murder” is plainly capable of writing “terrorism.” It chose not to.
CAIR National‘s own 2026-2027 back-to-school guide, extending what the organization calls its “Unhostile Campus Campaign” down into kindergarten classrooms, formally endorses a single 9/11 curriculum for nationwide use, developed by CAIR-New Jersey and a group called Teaching While Muslim, according to reporting by Jewish Onliner.

Many of our most important urban areas have become rotting, decaying, drug-infested hellholes. We have luxuries and electronic gadgets that previous generations could not have even imagined, and yet much of the population is living in almost unbelievable squalor and filth.
Let me give you an example.
Not too long ago, authorities in Ohio discovered sixteen children that were “found living in conditions that even livestock don’t live in.”
