Amidst reports that Syria has agreed to a Russian proposal to turn over any chemical weapons in the country to international control, Glenn opened the radio show this morning with a bold declaration: “This is the week that America lost its superpower status.”
“We may have averted catastrophe,” Glenn said. “Well, I mean, let’s put it this way: The Russians, who thought that Vladimir Putin was going to suddenly step in and be the savior, all of a sudden Vladimir Putin’s like, ‘I’m your man. I’m the superpower.’ Notice that Vladimir Putin now looks like the superpower? He looks like the guy to take on and fix the world?”
Considering all that has transpired over this last few weeks and months, it is hard to believe Vladimir Putin would be the one to emerge from this mess looking like the real leader. But what does that mean for the U.S.?
“When I saw the story that Putin came out and said, ‘I just was wrestling a bear here about ten minutes ago, after killing a polar bear… I called up Assad and I said, Hey! You’re gonna give me your chemical weapons.’ And he said, ‘Okay, dude.’ …I thought to myself: A, we’re done as a superpower,” Glenn explained. “He has just put the final nail in the coffin… Somehow or another Vladimir Putin and Russia are the lone superpower in the world. Because I don’t know if you noticed, but the chairs just switched at the table. Vladimir Putin and Russia is the leading superpower in the world.”
It remains to be seen if Syria is serious about relinquishing control of its weapons or if this whole thing is just a charade. But assuming the reports are correct, Russia certainly looks like the hero here.
“They dictate the terms. They create the peace. They do all the ones we’re supposed to be doing,” Stu said.
