WND EXCLUSIVE — The White House story that the Benghazi attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans was prompted by Muslims outraged over an obscure online video called “Innocence of Muslims” was concocted to “protect our dear leader,” Rush Limbaugh said Thursday.“The reason people are talking is because there are still millions of Americans outraged that this regime didn’t do anything to protect them, that this regime didn’t to anything to defend them when they were under assault,” he said.
He said the administration “has turned this whole thing into a political thing to protect our dear leader.”
Outrage has erupted anew this week over Benghazi, where four Americans were killed Sept. 11, 2012, in a terror attack by an al-Qaida-linked group.
The White House issued its story as Obama was in an intense re-election battle in which he was boasting that Osama bin Laden was dead and al-Qaida was “on the run.”
An organized al-Qaida-linked attack killing four Americans would obviously undermine the campaign position.
On Tuesday, the Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch released an email in which White House aide Ben Rhodes advised that then-national security adviser Susan Rice should “underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”
On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney insisted that sentence didn’t refer to Benghazi but was about other protests in the region.
Limbaugh said: “The regime is really wide open and exposed on this. The drive-bys (establishment media) are starting to pay some attention.”He said the way to know that there was a coverup by the White House was the fact that Obama “never sent in a rescue team.”
“That’s unprecedented,” he continued, “He left people under his command exposed and behind. … In addition to that, Obama never went to the situation room. … From the beginning the plan was to pretend the attack was a protest.
“Islamic protests at [our] embassy just can’t look good. [Obama] was the guy who was going to wipe this stuff out, going to end all this,” Limbaugh said. “It became obvious to Americans Obama had not decimated al-Qaida as he was claiming on the campaign trail.
“The chickens are starting to come home to roost. Slowly but surely,” he said.
At a congressional hearing Thursday, Air Force Brig. Gen. Robert Lovell, retired, said the military knew “early on” that the Benghazi attack “was a hostile action.”
“This was no demonstration gone terribly awry.”
