Jennifer Burke, TPNN Online Editor — Golfing is an expensive habit. In some locales, one could expect to pay upwards of $80 or more for 18 holes and a golf cart. But for the American taxpayer, who are on the hook for the bill every time Barack Obama wants to play a round, the cost for 2 golf trips in 2014 totals $3 million in airfare alone.In January, TPNN reported on Obama’s trip to California with the boys over Valentine’s Day. He began that trip by delivering a speech lecturing residents about the importance of ‘shared sacrifice’ in regards what he called the “worst water shortage in decades.’ He then spent the rest of the weekend playing three rounds of golf at two exclusive golf courses. In California, golf courses account for 17% of all water used.
Breitbart reports on newly released documents obtained by Judicial Watch which breaks down the cost to fly Air Force one for that vacation, which was his second of the year.
A February 17-20 trip to Palm Springs cost the Air Force $210,877 an hour, which, at 9.8 hours for the trip, comes to a total of $2,066,594.60. Obama golfed at Walter Annenberg’s Sunnylands and Larry Ellison’s Porcupine Creek while in California.
That over $2 million cost is separate from the cost of flying Michelle to her separate Valentine’s Day trip to a ritzy resort in Aspen, Colorado.
Two months later, Obama traveled to Key Largo Florida for yet another golf trip. This was the fourth vacation of the year for the First Family. The Obama White House said this was simply a weekend in Florida for warmer weather, though the Obamas had not long ago completed a nearly 3 week Hawaiian Christmas vacation.
This trip, according to Breitbart, cost nearly $900 thousand dollars, again in airfare alone.
A March golfing trip to Key Largo, Florida totaled $885,683.40 in flight costs, according to the response to a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act request made on March 10. In Florida, to the backdrop of a push to fight income inequality, the president golfed two rounds among the other one percenters at the tony Ocean Reef Club, which features a marina, hotel, salon, and more than a dozen restaurants. The Ocean Reef website’s frequently-asked-questions section inquires about the nearest airport: “Well the Closest airport is right here at the club with over a 4,000′ runway for private aviation.”
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton called Obama out on his abuse of power in regards to tax dollars for his extravagant lifestyle saying, “It is clear that the Obamas continually abuse the perks of the president’s office at taxpayer expense.
