SERMON OPENING COMMENTS
We open the Word of God now to Luke chapter 21...Luke chapter 21. And this will be the fifth in our series of messages on the signs of the return of Jesus Christ...the signs of the return of Jesus Christ. And to understand His return, we are sitting at His feet and hearing Him speak about it.As you will remember, Luke chapter 21 takes place during the last week of our Lord's life, actually on Wednesday evening before His crucifixion on Friday. He sits down with His disciples on the western slope of the Mount of Olives and tells them that He will return in the future to establish His Kingdom. He will come in power and glory. The first time He came in humility to die. The second time He comes in power to reign. So we're learning about the Second Coming of the Lord from the Lord Himself. This particular message that our Lord gives is in answer to questions asked by the disciples when He told them that He was going to come and bring the Kingdom and bring the current age to an end and establish the glorious age of His Kingdom, they wanted to know when. That's an appropriate question to ask. When?
And that is their question, if you will notice again, in verse 7 of Luke 21. "Teacher, when therefore will these things be and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?" And Jesus gives them the answer beginning in verse 8. It is the longest answer to any question Jesus is asked in the New Testament
