Although the study of mysterious flying objects has undergone several makeovers during recent decades, it was in 1947 that the US Government officially began using the term “flying saucer” and by the 1950s, pop culture embraced the concept. These rudimentary discs appeared in film, television, literature, music, toy stores and advertising. Reports of their sightings influenced religious movements and were the subject of military investigations. But the public wasn’t just interested in the vessels themselves – the flying saucer also became visual shorthand for alien invaders.
So far as new religious movements were concerned, in the mid-1950s a man by the name of George King founded The Aetherius Society. Still in operation today, the stated goal of The Aetherius Society is as follows: “Our purpose is to help as many people as possible to prepare themselves for the coming New Age. We do this mainly by radiating spiritual energy to improve world karma and raise global consciousness – often in direct cooperation with the Cosmic Masters.” The word “Aetherius” is a pseudonym, which comes from a Greek word meaning something like “traveler through the ethers of space”.
As a medium, George King relied heavily on yoga to enter a trance state in order to supposedly receive cosmic messages. In fact, he was a Master of Yoga and fanatically dedicated his life to its practice. His particular version of yoga (referred to as King Yoga) is supposedly vital to the spiritual path promoted by The Aetherius Society. According to their website: “King Yoga enables you to live every day with greater meaning and purpose, selflessly serve others in the light of truth, and know that you are an aspect of God – because God is all!” It is said King practiced yoga for an average of 8 to 10 hours per day, seeking mastery of psychic abilities and ultimately enlightenment....

In June 2025, foreign officials received Signal messages from what appeared to be U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. These weren't generic phishing attempts or obvious scams. They included AI-generated voice messages, realistic branding mimicking "state.gov" communication, and highly credible language. The targets? A member of Congress, a U.S. governor, and at least three foreign ministers.
Though the U.S. State Department was quick to downplay the event, a classified diplomatic cable revealed serious concern: not only had high-level foreign policy contacts been tricked, but the incident reflected a rapidly evolving threat--AI-driven impersonation with real-world influence. What was once the stuff of spy thrillers is now a credible method of social engineering that could tip the balance in diplomacy, markets, or even national security.

The Rubio impersonation is not an isolated case. Earlier this year, a finance manager at a multinational firm in Hong Kong was duped into transferring $25 million after joining a Zoom call filled with familiar colleagues--none of whom were real. Each was generated by AI, complete with facial expressions, gestures, and matching voices. By the time the fraud was uncovered, the money had vanished.
These examples illustrate a terrifying truth: synthetic deception isn't just possible--it's effective.
AI-generated videos and audio clips have already been used to manipulate public opinion, spread disinformation, and exploit individuals.
And now we've crossed into even more serious territory: diplomatic manipulation....

The decision, announced by the U.S. Mint and supported by the Treasury Department, comes amid growing concerns over rising production costs and the changing nature of financial transactions in the digital age.
The penny—first authorized in 1792 and produced in its original large copper form in 1787—has become increasingly obsolete. Today’s penny is a small, copper-plated zinc coin, but inflation has eroded its value to the point of near irrelevance. In 2024, the cost of minting a single penny reached 3.69 cents, and with over 6.3 billion pennies produced annually, the U.S. government has been losing an estimated $110 million each year on production alone.
Compounding the problem is the inefficient role pennies play in modern commerce. They are rarely accepted in vending machines or toll booths, and businesses often view them as a nuisance due to the time and labor required to handle and transport them. According to the U.S. Mint, nearly half of all coins it produces are pennies—requiring armored trucks, bank processing, and retail labor for a coin worth just one cent. Most pennies end up forgotten in jars or discarded entirely.
The move to end production came after President Donald Trump announced in February that he had instructed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to halt new penny manufacturing as a cost-saving measure. Though final authority rests with Congress, a Treasury spokesperson confirmed in May that the Mint had placed its last order for penny blanks and would cease production once the supply is exhausted.
The Mint anticipates an immediate annual savings of $56 million by ending penny production. The coin will remain legal tender indefinitely, though it will gradually disappear from circulation as coins are lost or removed over time....
