“Think Common Core Is Bad?”

Be On The Look Out For This...

Think Common Core is bad – wait until you hear about Imagining America, a national consortium of 90 campuses that Glenn believes could be America’s next progressive propaganda machine.

Imagining America was created through the White House Millennium Council, which was initiated under Bill Clinton in 1998 through an executive order. Their membership includes over 90 universities, including Columbia, NYU, Brown, University of Chicago, University of Washington, and UC Santa Barbara—all of whom receive grants from the Tides Foundation.

Using publicly available video, Glenn showed what some of the people involved want to do with the program. They discussed changing the face of government by getting radicals to run for office and involved with changing policy. They discussed redistribution of wealth, inequality, and oppression.

Many of their members have ties to George Soros. Pam Korza, for example, an advisory board member, is actually the co-director of the Soros funded Animating Democracy. Other members have written progressive texts and have ties to a wide range of connections including government organizations, universities, corporations, and more.

Imagining America openly admits to collaborating with “a whole domain of robust organizations with which higher education-based scholars and artists [can] collaborate” –meaning the Tides supported universities, and also what they call “non-academic cultural” organizations such as the Animating Democracy Initiative founded in 1996, The Community Arts Network founded in 1999, and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience founded in 1999 – all of whom receive funds from George Soros’ Open Society Foundation.

The organization is also closely tied to the new United States Department of Arts and Culture, a group that Glenn claims is the new Progressive propaganda arm. It’s not a real government organization, but it sure seems to want to act like one. The group seeks to use the arts to promote “cultural equity” and a “democratic media”. Glenn said that they also want to re-create and rewrite our history using “observation, improvisation, innovation, resourcefulness, and creativity.”

There were several alarming pieces of information that Glenn and his team were able to find out about Imagining America, but perhaps the most concerning things were there efforts to rewrite and shape history. At their 2013 Conference, the group hosted a panel called “Claiming the Past, Creating the Future” that sought to “step into history and actively participate in documenting the past from the vantage point of the present to articulate a socially just future”.

While this group has become as pervasive as Common Core, Glenn said people need to be aware of what is happening early before they have a chance to grow their influence and rewrite history through indoctrination. » Full Article With Comments

“The emphasis in eduction has shifted from fostering academic and personal growth in both students and teachers, to demanding uniformity and conformity.”

Jonathon M. Seidl, TheBlaze — As parents in several states have stood up against standardized education such as Common Core and CSCOPE, one teacher in the Chicago area (Highland Park) has taken a similar (although not necessarily directly related) stand that is now going viral.

Last week, 15-year teaching veteran Ellie Rubenstein posted a 10-minute YouTube video where she decried the state of test-centric eduction after the district she was working in said it was going to be transferring her and several other teachers– a move she says came because those teachers were vocal about their issues and one she says the district has attributed to concerns over the school’s “poor climate.”

“This is a total kangaroo court, a retaliation against four teachers who are quite vocal in advocating for their children,” Rubenstein said in an interview last week. “We are at the forefront of speaking our minds and at the forefront of advocating for our students. We are all being falsely accused by the administration and some colleagues of doing things we have never done, and saying things we have never said.”

Frustrated and out of options, Rubenstein decided to resign instead of face the transfer — and she did it in a way that has garnered over 350,000 views.

Among her concerns that have now gone viral:

• “I have experienced the depressing, gradual downfall and misdirection of education that has slowly eaten away at my love of teaching.”

• “The emphasis in eduction has shifted from fostering academic and personal growth in both students and teachers, to demanding uniformity and conformity.”

• “Raising students’ test scores on standardized tests is now the only goal, and in order to achieve it the creativity, flexibility and spontaneity … have been eliminated.”

• “Everything I loved about teaching is extinct.”

• “Curriculum is mandated. … The classroom teacher is no longer trusted or in control of what, when, or how she teaches.”

• She says complaint forms and write-ups are being used as tools to target teachers and keep them as “yes men,” instead of being used to get rid of poor educators — and she even takes a shot at the union.

“I thought I would be a teacher for the rest of my life,” Rubenstein says as her voice begins to crack.

“I have to get out before my sense of self and self-worth is completely obliterated,” she adds later.

At a local school board meeting last Thursday, the issue came up and district Superintendent David Behlow denied Rubenstein’s claims while trying to answer to angry parents who say the “poor climate” reason is bogus:

Behlow said many of Rubenstein’s comments in the video “were inaccurate, misleading and, in many cases, factually wrong.”

“Our teachers are encouraged to be creative and innovative and to exercise their own craft and magic in classrooms every day,” Behlow said.

For the past few weeks, Glenn and TheBlaze have been following the story of the Romeikes, a family of German immigrants who came to the United States in order to have the freedom to homeschool their children. Uwe and Hannelore Romeike wanted to home school their six children in Germany, but such a practice is illegal in their native country. The Evangelical family were granted refuge in the U.S. in 2010, but now the DHS is claiming that German laws banning homeschooling do not violate the family’s human rights and are not grounds for asylum.

‘DO NOT PICK UP THE PENCIL’: NEW YORK PARENTS COACH KIDS TO REFUSE COMMON CORE TESTS

Mytheos Holt, TheBlaze — Common Core, the controversial set of educational standards aimed at firming up students’ grasp of math and language, has already attracted criticism from sources both left and right. On the one hand, privacy advocates fret over the program’s data mining on students. On the other, teachers complain that the standards are overly rigid and won’t lead to a better education system. And now, parents angry over their students being tested on subjects they haven’t had time to learn are striking back as well — by giving their children a truly hands’ on lesson in civil disobedience.

WHEC Rochester reports:

Some parents are really fired up over this. News10NBC talked with parents outside School No. 33 including city school board member Willa Powell. The New York State Education Department says students are obligated to take the state tests, just like any other test and cannot opt out. But parents say they have the ultimate authority when it comes to their kids. They’re going to tell their kids to not pick up the pencil and tell the teacher they don’t have to take the state test.

Willa Powell, City School Board Member, said, “Guide your child to tell them how they go about refusing. How they go about refusing is simply do not pick up the pencil. Do not put their name on the page and say I don’t have to take this test. It’s that simple.”

Beth Laidlaw, City School Parent, said, “My child would not take a test whose score is not reported to the classroom teacher so it can’t help the classroom teacher do her job better. The scores are not included in the report card grade so it can’t hurt the child not to take it. As a parent, as a U.S. citizen, it is wonderful that I am able to coach my child to refuse these tests.”

These instances of civil disobedience may hold back the test’s administration, though the extent to which they have that effect will depend on how many students are induced to behave in this fashion. Otherwise, a few students may end up simply failing due to blank tests. » Full Article

There’s No Way To Dismiss This. This Is Indoctrination.

This morning, TheBlaze posted a shocking story out of a Florida elementary school. A father, Aaron Harvey, is furious with Cedar Hills Elementary in Jacksonville, Florida after finding a piece of paper in his fourth grade son’s backpack that read: “I am willing to give up some of my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure.”



According to TheBlaze:

Back in January, a local attorney came in to teach the students about the Bill of Rights. But after the attorney left, fourth-grade teacher Cheryl Sabb dictated the sentence to part of the class and had them copy it down, [Harvey] said.

The paper sat unnoticed in Harvey’s son’s backpack for several months until last week, when his son’s mother almost threw it away. The words caught her eye in the trash, and she showed it to Harvey, who said he was at a loss for words. He asked his son, who said Sabb had spoken the sentence out loud and told them to write it down. Harvey said he asked some of his son’s classmates and got a similar answer.

Over the last several weeks, Glenn has exposed education systems like CSCOPE and Common Core that are funded and supported by leftists in Washington and beyond and are slowly taking over our nation’s schools. Needless to say, he plenty to say about this story on radio this morning.

“Florida, I don’t know how you’re doing it. I don’t know how you’re doing it,” Glenn said. “Can you imagine your child coming homing with that? If that’s not indoctrination, tell me what is indoctrination. After a lesson on the Constitution, the teacher has your child write that, ‘I’m willing to give up some of my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure’?”

While initially the spokesperson for Duval County Public Schools, which includes Cedar Hills, told TheBlaze she didn’t know what prompted the teacher to have students write the sentence, the school has since contacted Harvey and told him that the sentence came during a lesson with the lawyer and the teacher had nothing to do with it. Instead, the school is now claiming that Harvey’s son “wrote it on his own free will.”

“All the children are pointing at the teacher,” Harvey told TheBlaze on Friday. “They [the school] told me that my son wrote that on his own free will — there’s no way he knew how to write that on his own free will. He likes to use some big words to flourish — [but] if he was going to put together a sentence that political I’m sure it would be more jumbled than a nice sentence like that.”

“Oh, my gosh, I would be outraged,” Glenn said. This is – there’s no way to dismiss this. This is indoctrination. We have shown you the curriculum from CSCOPE. We have shown you the things that are happening with Common Core, but those are all, you know, screen shots from the lesson plans, et cetera, et cetera. They are not something that comes right out of the classroom.”

“And everybody has always said, ‘Well, no. Well, that’s not really what it is,’” Glenn continued. “When the teachers are saying, you know, preaching against guns and they are saying, ‘You know what? You’ve got a cracker, you know, eaten in the shape of a gun. We’re going to have to call the police,’ everybody says that’s just out‑of‑control, you know, political correctness. No, it’s not. It’s indoctrination.”

Unfortunately, as of late, stories like this have become all the more common. From children being reprimanded for playing with toy guns to teachers imposing their own views on students, the American education system is broken, and Glenn, a long time supporter of home schooling (his two youngest children are home schooled), had a very frank message this morning.

“Pull your kids out of school,” Glenn said. “Get them out. I know that is really harsh, and I know that’s really hard and most people can’t do it and they are overwhelmed. Let me tell you something. If you are not doing it because you just can’t afford it and you’re like, ‘I can’t do it,’ please think about it, pray on it, talk. Seriously think about it this weekend and if you can’t, you can’t. And I understand that. And that’s why we’re going to continue to fight against this kind of indoctrination because we have to stand together because you can’t let any child be indoctrinated with this stuff.”

“If you say, ‘I can’t do it because I don’t know what I teach my kid, I don’t know how to do it,’ believe me you’ll do a better job than the teachers will. Believe me,” he continued. “You have been trained to think that you are not qualified to teach your child. And you know what? I wasn’t qualified to talk about Woodrow Wilson. I wasn’t qualified to talk about the progressive movement. But I did my own homework. You are smart enough to do it. You can… And there’s plenty of groups that will help you along the way.”

Home schooling might not be a viable option for everyone, but regardless of your situation, joining together to fight against this type of indoctrination and rhetoric in our schools is essential. “Are you willing to roll the dice that this kind of stuff is being done to your kids and you’re going to miss it,” Glenn asked. “Are you willing to roll the dice on that?”

“It’s not just about politics. It’s not education,” Stu concluded. “It’s about culture.”

Common Core is the new set of federal education standards being pushed by the Obama administration and several leftist organizations but it’s even seeing some support from some conservatives. National Review Online wrote a piece defending Common Core, and Glenn gave the definitive response on radio today.

“Common Core is something that we didn’t really get for quite some time and again it’s something we’ve learned from the 9/12 project and concerned parents all around the country that have been bringing this to our attention. When we started in on this work, we thought it was pretty bad. The more we do, the worse it becomes,” Glenn said.

Below are some of the points made by the National Review Online in defense of Common Core, followed by Glenn’s response.

National Review Online (NRO): Common Core is not “ObamaCore,” as some suggest. While President Obama often tries to claim credit, the truth is that the development of Common Core was well underway before he took office in January 2009.

Glenn: First of all, that’s just not true. Even though I’ve never called it Obama Core or alleged that it came solely from the president, the development of Common Core itself didn’t happen until 2009.

NRO: Some argue that states were coerced into adopting Common Core by the Obama administration as a requirement for applying for its Race to the Top grant competition (and No Child Left Behind waiver program).

Glenn: Okay. I would imagine when they say some are implying, that would be me. Yes, some argue that states were coerced because they were coerced. $4.35 billion was earmarked for states who would take the bait. The money was offered in the stimulus package and, of course, 45 states immediately jumped on it. We warned you not to at the time. We didn’t know why it was a bad thing. We just knew this was a bad thing: Don’t jump on that money. Now we know.

NRO: Education policymaking — and 90 percent of funding — is still handled at the state and local levels. And tying strings to federal education dollars is nothing new. No Child Left Behind — George W. Bush’s signature education law — linked federal Title I dollars directly to state education policy, and states not complying risked losing millions in compensatory-education funding (that is, funding for programs for children at risk of dropping out of school).

GLENN: Okay. So now what does this mean? That we’ve linked it and it’s been linked since George W. Bush. Yes. Yes. Progressives. Progressive steps. So you can always say it’s the frog in the water. Remember? You boil a frog, you just put them in there while the water’s cool and he never, he never ‑‑ but you throw him in the hot water and he jumps right out. Right? This is nothing new. You’ve been in that pot for a while. It was cold water. Sure, it might be getting a little warmer now but it’s the same pot. This is more of the, “George Bush did something sort of like this. So it has to be okay with you guys, right?” No. No. I and you should absolutely reject that line of thinking.

NRO: Perhaps the clearest evidence that states can still set their own standards is the fact that five states have not adopted Common Core. Some that have adopted it might opt out, and they shouldn’t lose a dime if they do.

GLENN: Seeing and hearing this kind of ridiculous nonsense, I can’t help but wonder if this was written by maybe a fifth grader that, you know, will be tested soon. The fact that 90% of the states took the money and the program, that’s your clearest evidence that states can still set their own standards? I mean, that’s frightening. I mean, I hope, I hope two of the, you know, experts that wrote this defense aren’t actually involved in the education of our children. The bribe kids worked for 90% for those who were offered the bribe and that proves that bribes don’t work.

First of all, Texas is one of those states that opt out. We got instead CSCOPE. Just as bad. And the Republicans are doing CSCOPE. Just because some have adopted might opt out. Listen to that. Some have adopted and they might opt out. And they shouldn’t lose a dime if they do. Okay. They might opt out, and monkeys might fly out of my pants. And if they do, I shouldn’t lose a dime.

Have the two of you right‑leaning educators seen a single news report in the last ten years? Because there’s a lot of stuff that shouldn’t happen that has.

“They deny in this article that there is any need for concern over the leftist indoctrination. Common Core is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates and Linda Darling‑Hammond, an education adviser for Barack Obama’s campaign. Oh. Well, pardon me if you got ‑‑ if you got Bill and Melinda Gates and the, what was it, the education adviser for Barack Obama, I mean, I don’t know why I’d be a tad skeptical of that group,” Glenn said.

Glenn also heavily criticized the emphasis on informational texts over classical literature.

New Republic Online: The most prominent criticism of Common Core is that it abandons classical literature and instead forces students to read dry government manuals. This claim reflects a profound and perhaps deliberate misunderstanding of Common Core literacy standards, which do encourage increased exposure to informational texts and literary nonfiction. The goal is to have children read challenging texts that will build their vocabulary and background knowledge, a strategy grounded in what education scholar E. D. Hirsch has shown: A broad, content-rich curriculum reduces the achievement gap between the middle class and the poor.

GLENN: Common Core also shifts away from classic literature and allows for the reading of informational texts. Now, what is informational texts? And by the way, it shifts as the years progress. When you’re in ‑‑ when you’re in first grade, you read fewer and fewer informational texts and you read more of the classic literature that is approved. But by the time you hit high school, I think you’re at 60%, or is it 80% of informational texts? And what are the informational texts? Those are ‑‑ those are handbooks from the EPA on how to make sure that your siding and your insulation is good in your house. Who in their right mind wants to read the government handbooks?

This will invite greater and greater indoctrination and bias in the selection and teachings of the texts. You’re narrowing things down. You’ve only got 20% or 40% that is going to be able to be a classic by the time they’re in high school, and what kid will learn love of reading from reading any, any government handbook? Who ‑‑ what kid will learn anything except to go dead inside? The article, co‑written by Kathleen Porter McGee, she’s a fellow at the Fordham Institute, she makes a ‑‑ she makes the claim, the Fordham Institute has carefully examined Common Core and compared it with existing state standards and it’s found that for most states Common Core is a great improvement with regard to rigor and cohesiveness.

“The battle, my friends, is on,” Glenn said. “The missiles are coming not just from the left but also the right. As we fight this insidious menace to our children and to our families ‑‑ and that’s exactly what it is ‑‑ we are going to have a difficult time discerning who our allies are.”

“This article appeared in the National Review Online, attacking me and Michelle Malkin for daring to speak out against Common Core, defending this horrific mess, a mess that is without any question the darling of Barack Obama. This article came from scholars who supposedly are right‑leaning. What is their motivation? I have no idea. I don’t know them. I’ve never heard of either of them. But the point is the shells will come from both sides. So you’re going to have to do your own homework unlike you’ve ever done before. You’re going to have to know what you’re talking about.”

“The defense of Common Core doesn’t even mention all of the data mining that will take place from Microsoft, the biowristbands they want to use on our kids, the FCAT scans that are in the Department of Education’s own paperwork. The rest of the 1984 tight monitoring systems, all of it, all of it of course is simply going to be done to help your children. It will help educators help your kids. It will make them safer, smarter, more secure. This is the progressive movement coming in for the kill. And believe me, if we don’t stop it, this will be the kill. But we can’t and we won’t allow it.”

COMMON CORE FOR...HOME SCHOOLERS?

Tiffany Gabbay, TheBlaze — As a greater level of scrutiny is being placed on the controversial curriculum systems CSCOPE (in Texas) and Common Core Standards (nationwide), concerned parents spoke to TheBlaze about their troubling experiences, revealing that not even home-schooling is beyond the reach of these encroaching systems.

Home-schooling not beyond the reach of Common Core?

Keven Card, a former Marine from Houston who has home-schooled his children for the last six years, thought his family was safe from the reach of Common Core, but soon learned otherwise. As noted on his blog, two years ago Pearson Education, which is linked to Common Core, acquired Texas Connections Academy, the online charter school Card uses to homeschool his ninth-grader.

One lesson plan featured a video dubbed, ”China Rises,” that appears to tout the virtues of Communism over capitalism.

According to this parent that's exactly right!

“It blew my mind,” Card told TheBlaze in an interview.

“They make kids watch a video that makes capitalism look bad and Communist China look good. It’s absolutely unbelievable.”

The next time you go shopping for clothes, electronics, shoes, toys, or even food, check the label. There’s a good chance it says “Made in China.”

As you might guess, China has one of the most productive economies in the world, and it has been growing at a rapid pace in recent decades. This growth has brought great wealth to Chinese entrepreneurs and businesses and improved standards of living for millions of people.



The China Rises website provides preview clips and information on the content featured in the program. Notably, the “Party Games” and “Getting Rich” sections, Card explained, are of particular interest as they “address the changing politics and economy of China.”

It is also worth pointing out that the documentary was produced in partnership with The New York Times and Discovery Times.

Card notes that the video preview made available under the “Getting Rich” sub-section of the site talks about capitalism’s “cruelties” as it shows a man whose lost his hand in a machine. The section appears at the 1.12 mark.



When asked how long questionable lessons like China Rises have been on his son’s roster of studies, Card said he first noticed curriculum changing roughly a year or two ago when a religious studies lesson favored the Muslim faith over Christianity.

“I wrote a letter to the principal of the Texas Connections Academy, but never received a reply,” the concerned father said. Pearson acquired our school in 2011.

What Is StudentGPS And What Does It Track, Exactly?

A Texas mother whose child is enrolled in the fifth grade at a Texas public school told TheBlaze that while some of the lesson plans at her child’s school are worrisome, she is most concerned about data mining, especially in light of the fact that, come next year, her school will implement something called “StudentGPS dashboards.”

“I’m not sure if it will be just at our school or all of them,” the Blaze reader, who asked to remain nameless out of concern for her child and school faculty explained. “I have a feeling our school will be one the earlier ones to implement the StudentGPS.”

According to the StudentGPS website, the program is part of a partnership with the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), are particularly beneficial in identifying “at-risk students” by providing educators a “collection of reports and metrics that provide educators with access to historical, timely, and predictive information on all students to help improve education outcomes for all Texas students.”

The dashboards are said to “flag emerging issues such as problems in attendance, class work, and test performance as early as possible” as well as “provide instant access to analyzed data, instead of requiring requests to a data analyst for ad hoc reports.”

While the site states that “loading dashboard data to TSDS is strictly optional,” schools are encouraged to do so as they provide a “rich, sophisticated, empirical approach to teaching that help schools, classes, and individual students get more from their educational opportunities.”

The Blaze reader said she found out about the GPS “dashboards” while on a call with the school principal about the district’s plan to allocate iPads to all students next year. She said that she was concerned about the kinds of data that would be tracked on the iPad, but that once she heard about StudentGPS, she was concerned “even more.”

Kids Know About Global Warming And Wars

Another item the concerned mother noted was that her 5th grader brought home a questionable homework assignment earlier this week. The parent told TheBlaze that the lesson (screenshots of which are featured below) is being used as practice for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exam, which is to be administered by schools next week.

The lesson in this case was not produced by CSCOPE, but rather a independent company. Nonetheless, some of the language and themes will still raise eyebrows.

“The content seems designed to undermine parental authority,” the Texas resident said. “Adults are just too stupid to get anything right. I assume the intent is to drive a wedge between parent and child.”

The excerpts below ask why children are not permitted to vote, especially when (see section 3) they understand “global warming and war” and know that adults have only made the world’s problems worse.

The Texas mom said that while CSCOPE is implemented at her school, teachers are not forced to use its lesson plans. She added that while that may be a good thing, she has still “come to expect verbiage on global warming and fossil fuels” and believes CSCOPE’s influence will only increase. The Blaze reader also expressed concern over the fact that experienced teachers are growing tired of trying to overcome “the hurdles” and will likely leave the schools out of sheer frustration.

“We are part of a good, close community, which makes this [CSCOPE implementation] that much harder,” she explained.

Urgent Message On Common Core:

You need to know what is going on in your schools as the radical progressive agenda infiltrates your kids.

Four years ago Glenn talked about the machine progressives were building. The new framework that once ready, they would be able to turn on and fundamentally transform America. What does Glenn feel is THE most important piece of that machinery? Common Core. Using education to indoctrinate the youth has been embedded into the progressive agenda, with both the GOP and Democrats championing the terrifying legislation.

“I don’t know of a time that I have really truly called and put a plea out and sent an SOS out,” Glenn explained at the beginning of radio’s second hour today.

“This has already been done. This is way down the road. You’ll be lucky if it’s not in your school next fall, and it is an end run around your, not only around your state and its sovereignty, but it is an end run around your education department in your state, it is an end run around your board of education in your control community and most importantly it is an end run around you as a parent. It changes fundamentally our entire system. This is I believe the most important piece of fundamental transformation and you are going to hear a few things that you will find hard to believe, but I ask you today to please do your own homework. Do not take this at all from me. Do your own homework, and may I recommend you do it today and then you link arms with people and you get back into your 9/12 group.”

For weeks, Glenn has been exposing indoctrination in schools. It started with an expose on CSCOPE, which expanded to Common Core. It was during last week’s episode on Common Core that a guest discussed the scary amounts of data be collected on kids, and last night Glenn uncovered some of the scariest information on this topic yet.

“I’ve asked the experts, what other country is doing anything like this? The only one that’s even close, and it’s not in this ballpark, is China. There’s no one else in this ballpark. Our children are the guinea pigs for the world. We will lead the way. And do you remember when I said we wouldn’t be destroyed; we would be perverted? Profound darkness on this,” Glenn said.

“What I’m going to lay out for you, none of it is opinion; it all comes from government documents and all from either the stimulus package or from the Department of Education. But this is a hostile takeover, the final takeover, and the roots come from the stimulus package, although I believe George W. Bush started this ball rolling long ago in No Child Left Behind. And it really came from the idea of, ‘You want this money, you’re going to have to live by these standards.’ And that was what was in this stimulus package,” he explained.

The 2009 Stimulus Bill included provisions encouraging states to develop data systems for collecting a large amount of information on public-school kids. Today, all 50 states either maintain or are capable of maintaining extensive databases on public-school students.

“This is the summary of the stimulus package, HR 167 under Department of Education, “education for the disadvantaged” is what it says. And then it says for additional amount for education for the disadvantaged to carry out Title I of the elementary and secondary education act of 1965, $13 billion will be ‑‑ I’m going to have to count the zeros ‑‑ $13 billion will be provided. $5 billion shall be available for targeted grants under Section 1125 of ESEA, provided further that $5 billion shall be available for education finance incentive grants,” Glenn said.

“What that money again goes to in the stimulus, you know, 40 or 50 pages later: Improving collection and use of data. The State will establish a longitudinal data system that includes elements described in Section 604(e)(2)(d) of the America COMPETES Act. So you have to look that up. But that’s the key. If you want any money, you have to put together a data collection service. What is the data collection service? Well, this I contend is one of the reasons why we had the turtle tunnels and everything else that everybody talked about. Because it kept you away from things like this: $5 billion.”

“Now, Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education, called this a historic opportunity. I call it bribery. Race to the Top gave the federal government billions of dollars to dangle in front of the cash‑starved states and they dangled and said, ‘All you have to do is sign up for this program. You’ll get the cash.’ And state after state signed.”

Glenn explained that 45 states have signed on but five have backed out, including Texas. However, in Texas they have replaced it with CSCOPE which is equally dangerous.

“But warning: Texas adopted another program almost exactly like it, and the GOP is protecting that program and so you have to be extraordinarily careful because they’ll just rename it. This is not a liberal agenda, this is not a conservative agenda, this is not Republican or Democrat. This is progressive. It is control. States signed up, and they had to develop data systems for collecting large amounts of information on public schoolchildren, and I mean large amounts,” Glenn said.

“These databases will track all kinds of personal data, including but certainly not limited to healthcare histories, income information, the religious affiliation of your family, voting family status, blood types, blood test result, homework completion, hair color, eye color, whether a child was premature or not, do they have any birthmarks, even bus stop arrival information. It goes deep, deep. If they have 44 data points, they can tell you an awful lot about ‑‑ they can tell you just pretty much anything. These are hundreds of data points collected on your children for over 20 years. This is the groundwork for a national student database that will track your kids and their personal information from preschool until the stated end of 20,” Glenn said.

“What Common Core and this data collection system really is, the easiest way to understand it, and this is my personal understanding and my personal opinion. I want to separate fact from my opinion so you’re very clear. But the best way I think to describe it is, you know how China goes in and they find the kids that have the most talent for gymnastics and they’ll say, that kid’s going to be fantastic as a gymnast. That kid is a great mathematician. He’s going to work in our nuclear power programs. That’s what happens. By the time you’re 7, your lot is cast,” Glenn explained.

“That’s exactly what this is and that’s why these corporations want this so much. Because they will cast the lots, they will find the best workers by the time they’re 7 and then they will enrich and empower and educate those kids. But if your kid, God forbid, ends up like me when I was 7 or 8, I don’t have a chance. I will be a cog in the machine forever, and you will ‑‑ there will be no escape. There will be no college education.”

“What you will see is state capitalism. Google, Microsoft, GE, data mining our schools to nudge our children into the job the State deems the most needed for the future,” Glenn warned.

GE is one of the companies funding Common Core through it’s foundation.

Now, most parents would assume that any information collected on their kids by the schools would be protected by some kind of privacy laws, right? Not anymore.

Glenn explained last night:

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act used to protect the privacy of kids and a parents written consent was needed to release data. But in 2012, regulations were used to change the need to get parental consent. Now all the information the schools started collecting in 2009 can be shared among various federal agencies and without consent as long as whoever requests it is “conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school”. According to the National Data Collection Model, the government should collect information on health-care history, family income and family voting status along with religious affiliation and extra curricular activity, and more.

Glenn warned that when fighting back and spreading the word about Common Core, there is a good chance that concerned parents will be treated like conspiracy theorists. Already in Oregon, parents who pushed back on the program were portrayed as kooks who were anti-science.

Glenn has spent a lot of time over the past few weeks exposing some of the education initiatives in states across the country that are indoctrinating kids into the radical progressive agenda. Today, Glenn discussed an issue tied into Common Core that many people aren’t aware of: data mining.

“We cover many important stories and topics on this program, but I don’t think any could be more important than what we are covering tonight: the progressive takeover of America’s schools,” Glenn said.

Glenn spent the opening minutes of the monologue reviewing the scary pieces of legislation that have allowed the government access to your information through education systems.

Glenn explained that in order for states to qualify for stimulus money, they had to agree to build such systems according to federally dictated standards. The 2009 Stimulus Bill included provisions encouraging states to develop data systems for collecting a large amount of information on public-school kids. Today, all 50 states either maintain or are capable of maintaining extensive databases on public-school students.

“Everyone, myself included, mocked the wasteful spending. It was easy. Millions of dollars on turtle tunnels, interactive dance software, ant research, etc. But it was almost too easy. What did we miss while everyone complained about the sidewalks to nowhere and studies on the effects of inequity among monkeys? Could it be Obama was rushing this not because he thought turtle tunnels would help the economy – but because it had other much more important goals he didn’t want anyone to focus on?” Glenn asked.

“1,073 pages written by Van Jones and the Apollo Alliance. It was never about ‘saving or creating’ jobs. It was radical left agenda, period,” he explained.

Many parents might think that the government needs their permission to gather the information to go into these databases, but that’s actually not the case.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act used to protect the privacy of kids and a parents written consent was needed to release data. But in 2012, regulations were used to change the need to get parental consent. Now all the information the schools started collecting in 2009 can be shared among various federal agencies and without consent as long as whoever requests it is “conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school”. According to the National Data Collection Model, the government should collect information on health-care history, family income and family voting status along with religious affiliation and extra curricular activity, and more.

Glenn also referenced a Department of Education Report that discusses student monitoring techniques using “functional magnetic resonance imaging” and “using cameras to judge facial expressions, an electronic seat that judges posture, a pressure-sensitive computer mouse and a biometric wrap on kids’ wrists.”

But what is the ultimate goal of the data mining? Glenn suggested that big corporations like GE and Microsoft were getting in bed with government in order to accomplish their goals, specifically using the data to nudge students into the jobs the state deems best for the future. He likened it to State Capitalisn, where a government run by a single party in control of labor, media, education, and banking joined by Big Business to further their mutual collective goal.
