A GLIMPSE INTO HEAVEN

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 8 (FINAL PART)

SERMON NOTES
Revelation 4 gives us a look at the throne room of God. As we read John’s description, we see the beauty, grandeur and majesty that awaits us. We will see the centrality of God in the midst of His universe and in the midst of His heaven. And like the elders and the angels, we will all worship God and praise him ceaselessly because everything we have is derived from the Almighty.

Jesus is going to bring us right before the face of God. We’ll see Him unmediated.

Jesus is in an actual place called heaven, a place of glory where God dwells with His angels and redeemed children. In another sense, Jesus is also with us here, in this world. JESUS, BEING GOD, HAS ALL OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD, INCLUDING OMNIPRESENCE. So, Jesus and the Father and the Holy Spirit are everywhere and not just “in heaven.” As Solomon said in 2 Chronicles 2:6, “The heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him.”

JESUS, THE DEVIL AND YOU

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 7

SERMON NOTES
Satan never loses an opportunity to accuse us of things for which God has already forgiven. Satan is angry. We participated in the fall, just like he did. But through Christ, we are now exempt from God’s wrath—the wrath that Satan will forever endure. And when the opportunity presents itself, Satan stands before God and accuses us, other times; he makes us feel guilty for things that God has already forgiven.

We are the big object of attention in the Lord’s courtroom—Satan on one side, Jesus on the other. Christians can take heart because Jesus has already won the victory.

ANGELS, GOD’S INVISIBLE AGENTS

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 6

SERMON NOTES
MOUSE OVER EACH VERSE LOCATION BELOW FOR FULL TEXT
Many of today’s ideas regarding angels are filled with cultural theology that is unbiblical and wrong. Every single angel was individually created by God. They have intellect, emotions, and will.

Angels are personal spiritual beings who have intelligence, emotions, and will. This is true of both the good and evil angels (demons). Angels possess intelligence (Matthew 8:29; 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Peter 1:12), show emotion (Luke 2:13; James 2:19; Revelation 12:17), and exercise will (Luke 8:28-31; 2 Timothy 2:26; Jude 6). Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14) without true physical bodies. Although they do not have physical bodies, they are still personalities.

Though they have wills, angels, like all creatures, are subject to the will of God. Good angels are sent by God to help believers (Hebrews 1:14). Here are some activities the Bible ascribes to angels:

They praise God (Psalm 148:1-2; Isaiah 6:3). They worship God (Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:8-13). They rejoice in what God does (Job 38:6-7). They serve God (Psalm 103:20; Revelation 22:9). They appear before God (Job 1:6; 2:1). They are instruments of God’s judgments (Revelation 7:1; 8:2). They bring answers to prayer (Acts 12:5-10). They aid in winning people to Christ (Acts 8:26; 10:3). They observe Christian order, work, and suffering (1 Corinthians 4:9; 11:10; Ephesians 3:10; 1 Peter 1:12). They encourage in times of danger (Acts 27:23-24). They care for the righteous at the time of death (Luke 16:22).

Angels are an entirely different order of being than humans. Human beings do not become angels after they die. Angels will never become, and never were, human beings. God created the angels, just as He created humanity. The Bible nowhere states that angels are created in the image and likeness of God, as humans are (Genesis 1:26). Angels are spiritual beings that can, to a certain degree, take on physical form. Humans are primarily physical beings, but with a spiritual aspect. The greatest thing we can learn from the holy angels is their instant, unquestioning obedience to God’s commands.

MOTIVATED BY THE INVISIBLE WORLD

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 5

SERMON NOTES
The cross of Jesus Christ and the message that it represents have always clashed with popular culture. As Christians, we live in both the city of man and the city of God. We shouldn’t isolate ourselves from the city of men, instead, we need to learn to navigate it and even confront the people in it with the truth of God’s love.

We need to be living examples of people who have come out of horrible situations and backgrounds and have been transformed by God’s grace and mercy. We also need to demonstrate that this life isn’t where we always need to win because we know that, in Jesus, we have already won. Satan’s nature is malicious. His efforts in opposing God, His people, and His truth are tireless. He is always opposed to man’s best interests. Through his role in introducing sin into the human family, Satan has gained the power of death—a power which Christ has broken through His crucifixion and resurrection. He tempted Christ directly, trying to lead Him into compromise by promising Him worldly authority and power.

Along with his work of tempting mankind, Satan also delights in deception. His lying nature stands in bold contrast to the truth for which Christ stands. The great falsehood which he uses so frequently is that good can be attained by doing wrong. This lie is apparent in practically all his temptations. As the great deceiver, Satan is an expert at falsifying truth. » Full transcript

POWER FROM THE DARK SIDE

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 4

SERMON NOTES
This is a series of messages on the invisible world in the invisible world. There are two kingdoms. One is the Kingdom of Light and the owner of that kingdom is God. The other kingdom is a Kingdom of Darkness and the god of this world tries to exert authority in the kingdom of darkness, and those kingdoms come into conflict. I’m well aware that as I speak on this topic that there are some of you who know that you are troubled by the kingdom of darkness and you know that. There are many others who may be troubled by the kingdom of darkness who don’t know it. They just attribute it all too human nature, possibly to their own stubbornness, their own self will and they don’t understand that they are having a spiritual conflict as well. That’s why even though this message is for everyone, including myself, there is an opportunity for all of us to listen as perhaps we’ve never listened before... » Full transcript

KNOWLEDGE FROM THE DARK SIDE

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 3

SERMON NOTES
People try to find an alternative to the Almighty so they don’t have to deal with the issues of sin, humility and submission. And one way they do this is to get involved with some sort of divination. Whether Ouija boards, horoscopes, tarot cards, or channeling the spirit world—these are all occult practices and condemned by God.

In this message, Pastor Lutzer gives us three reasons why people try to tap into the occult, and why such seemingly innocent practices can trap a person into a life of spiritual slavery.

SATAN WANTS THIS GENERATION TO BELIEVE THAT IT’S POSSIBLE TO DIE WITHOUT FAITH IN JESUS AND STILL HAVE A HAPPY EXPERIENCE AFTER DEATH.

FINDING GOD IN THE WASTELAND

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 2

SERMON NOTES
Jacob wasn’t seeking God when God appeared to him in a dream. Through the story of “Jacob’s Ladder” we see three attributes of God: His faithfulness, His accessibility, and His omnipresence. And as we look a little deeper, we see that “Jacob’s Ladder” is actually Jesus Christ—the only ladder that reaches to heaven. God may unexpectedly show up in your life, just like He did with Jacob.

LIVING IN TWO WORLDS

MOODY CHURCH HOUR
WITH DR. ERWIN W. LUTZER

THE INVISIBLE WORLD 1

SERMON NOTES
In three short verses in 2 Corinthians 4, Paul gives us three contrasts of the invisible versus the visible world.

1. Outer Bodies and Inner Nature
2. Suffering and Glory
3. Seen and Unseen

He reminds us that the visible world is wasting away, and that our suffering can’t compare with the glory that awaits us in the invisible world. Therefore, we need to keep our focus on eternity. Unless we have a good vision of the invisible world while we’re living in the visible world, we’re hopeless indeed.
