President Obama returned from his holiday vacation to announce what he called, ‘common sense gun reform’. This includes universal background check registration along with restrictions on seniors. Is this really common sense? Has the president overstepped his executive authority? Is this what the public is calling for?

Joining Jim to look at this issue was Erich Pratt. Erich is the executive director for Gun Owners of America.

Erich believes President OBAMA DOES NOT HAVE CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO SET FORTH GUN CONTROL REFORMS VIA EXECUTIVE ORDER. Why? The Second Amendment says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. This means that everything the president laid out is an infringement on law abiding gun owners and citizens.

THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

Erich also referred to the president’s analogy that you can’t yell ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. He noted how THE PRESIDENT SANK HIS OWN ARGUMENT by saying this because obviously movie goers are free to enter a theater and when that freedom is abused, then they’re held liable. What theaters don’t do is put customers through a background check to make sure they don't have a history of yelling ‘fire’ while attending a movie. In the case of gun control, President OBAMA IS PLACING PRIOR RESTRAINT AND RESTRICTIONS ON LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AND THEIR GOD-GIVEN RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENSE. This means the president’s theater analogy is a failure and coming from someone who taught constitutional law, he should know better.

Jim then brought up an interesting question. If the actions of the president are unconstitutional and are an assault on the Second Amendment and the Separation of Powers, why are they advancing and who’s going to stop them?

The other side doesn’t have the facts or figures to back them up. OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS WE’VE SEEN 150 MILLION NEW GUNS MANUFACTURED AND IMPORTED INTO THE U.S YET DURING THAT TIME OUR MURDER RATE WAS CUT IN HALF. So Erich believes it’s all about the agenda, so Gun Owners of America will be pursuing legal action in this area and also working with congressmen on defunding gun restrictions.

Larry Pratt is the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America. He is an expert on 2nd Amendment History and how it relates to topics of today.

Larry believes the evidence presented to the jury in the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin trial gave no possible verdict other than "not guilty." For example, Zimmerman had grass stains on his back, a contusion on the back of his head, a broken nose, and there were pictures of him before he was cleaned up at the scene. The evidence also included grass stains on Martin's knees. This last piece of evidence makes it appear that Martin was straddling Zimmerman and pushing his head into the cement.

Since his acquittal, multiple threats have been made against Zimmerman and his family. Even a couple that Zimmerman recently saved in a Florida car crash cancelled a news conference because they were receiving threats.

Now news is out that Zimmerman's personal gun has been confiscated under the order of Attorney General Eric Holder. Larry believes this is an overreach of government and that a hate-crimes lawsuit against Zimmerman may be in the works.

Larry also talked about an invasion of privacy via the use of medical data that could lead to the confiscation of people's guns and the denial of permits to carry concealed weapons. This is why Larry urged listeners to call their congressmen and encourage them to only vote for a continuing resolution that defunds Obamacare.

The high profile trial of George Zimmerman is now underway. He is the man accused of killing 17 year old Travon Martin. The jury makeup alone is interesting as it is an all female jury numbering only 6. All went through some intense questioning before being seated. Jim and Larry look at the possible impact of the "Stand-Your-Ground" law as well as the racism of the media in relation to this trial.

Gun Owners of America issued a news release communicating that the fate of gun control could be determined in the next few days. In fact, Senator Harry Reid has moved to proceed to Senate Bill 649, the Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.

Discussing the matter with Jim was Erich Pratt, Director of Communications with Gun Owners of America.

Erich believes that SB-649 will not do anything to make schools safer and instead feels this is all about restricting the 2nd Amendment rights that we enjoy.

SB-649 would put you in jail for 15 years if you sold guns to someone and you didn’t realize they were a prohibited person. Erich also noted that nothing in Senator Harry Reid’s bill would have prevented the carnage that took place in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Erich indicated that Gun Owners of America has been working with Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah to begin a filibuster to prevent SB-649 from even coming up for a vote. However, Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania has made a deal with Joe Mansion, a Democrat from West Virginia and they are promoting their own bill as a compromise which may give other Senators the excuse they need to go ahead and vote for Harry Reid’s bill.

The final language that goes into the bill is critical to protecting your 2nd Amendment rights and you can voice your concerns via the legislative hotline number listed below.

Later in the program Jim also discussed two articles that highlight the fact that our government believes evangelical Christians are an extremist threat to America.

DHS Ammo Buy: Equipping a Police State?

'Not the Number of Bullets We Need to Worry About,
But Number of Feds With Guns'

Drew Zahn, WND — What do non-military federal agencies need with 2 billion rounds of ammunition?

While speculation abounds over the federal government’s recent binge on bullets, gun organizations like the National Rifle Association have told WND the purchases are perfectly consistent with the total number of armed officers in the government’s various agencies – a fact some, however, say is downright intimidating.

“It’s not the number of bullets we need to worry about,” said Jeff Knox, director of The Firearms Coalition, “but the number of feds with guns it takes to use those bullets.”

“I don’t think it’s a dark conspiracy,” added Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, “I just don’t understand the need for all that firepower.”

For years, WND has been at the forefront of reporting the growth in federal police power being dispersed across dozens of government agencies:

• In 1997, WND blew the lid off 60,000 federal agents enforcing over 3,000 criminal laws, a report that prompted Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America to remark, “Good grief, that’s a standing army. … It’s outrageous.”

• Also in 1997, as part of a ongoing series on the militarization of the federal government, WND reported on the armed, “environment crime” cops employed by the Environmental Protection Agency and a federal law enforcement program that had trained 325,000 prospective federal police since 1970.

• WND also reported on thousands of armed officers in the Inspectors’ General office and a gun-drawn raid on a local flood control center to haul off 40 boxes of … paperwork.

• WND further reported on a plan by then Delaware Sen. Joe Biden to hire hundreds of armed Hong Kong policemen into dozens of U.S. federal agencies to counter Asian organized crime in America.

• In 1999, WND CEO Joseph Farah warned there were more than 80,000 armed federal law enforcement agents, constituting “the virtual standing army over which the founding fathers had nightmares.” Today, that number has nearly doubled.

• Also in 1999 WND reported plans made for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, to use military and police forces to deal with Y2K.

• In 2000, Farah discussed a Justice Department report on the growth of federal police agents under President Clinton, something Farah labeled “the biggest arms buildup in the history of the federal government – and it’s not taking place in the Defense Department.”

• A 2001 report warned of a persistent campaign by the Department of the Interior, this time following 9/11, to gain police powers for its agents.

• In 2008, WND reported on proposed rules to expand the military’s use inside U.S. borders to prevent “environmental damage” or respond to “special events” and to establish policies for “military support for civilian law enforcement.”

• Most recently, WND reported that while local police have found themselves short of necessary ammunition, the federal government has been stockpiling billions of rounds for its non-military, non-FBI law enforcement officers.

Give all those federal cops two billion bullets, Jeff Knox says, and now there’s cause for concern.

Radio host Michael Savage listed one more factor on his program last week, citing not only the rise in federal acquisition of guns and ammunition, but also the simultaneous effort by the Obama administration to place more restrictions on private gun ownership.

“If you want to get paranoid, Obama can really help you in your work,” Savage continued. “Why would the Department of Homeland Security have purchased 1.6 billion rounds of hollow-point ammunition over the last 10 months at the same time they’re trying to disarm the average American citizen?” Additional research by Alyssa Farah. » Read More
