PENTAGON APPROVES WHOPPING $1.9 BILLION ARMS DEAL WITH ISRAEL

Breaking Israel News
Latest News, Biblical Perspective

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle.”

Psalm 144:1

Lea Speyer, Breaking Israel News (BIN) — The US State Department approved a massive arms deal with Israel worth a whopping $1.9 billion, it was announced on Tuesday.

The details of the sale, which are pending congressional review after being approved by the Pentagon, will add thousands of air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles as well as bombs to Jerusalem’s arsenal for “self-defense” needs.

If finalized and approved, Israel will receive a range of precision-guided munitions consisting of 3,000 Hellfire missiles, 750 bunker buster bombs, 4,100 glide bombs, and 250 medium-range air-to-air missiles.

In addition, 14,500 missile guidance systems, also known as tail kits for Joint Direct Attack Munitions, which adapt unguided missiles into GPS guided bombs, are to be shipped to Israel as well.

The deal is worth $1.879 billion and will greatly enhance the military capabilities and defense of the Jewish state.

“The proposed sale of this equipment will provide Israel the ability to support its self-defense needs,” a statement by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency reads. “These munitions will enable Israel to maintain operational capability of its existing systems and will enhance Israel’s operational interoperability with the United States.”

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability.”

According to the statement, the sale was requested by Israel and only includes weapons that Israel already has in its arsenal.

Each year, Israel receives $3 billion in military aid from the US, of which most of the funds must be spent on American-made arms. The $1.9 billion deal comes on the heels of another military aid package to Israel approved by the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee earlier this month.

The $474 million arms deal will bolster Israel’s anti-missile defense systems and include funding for the short-range Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems, the longer-range Arrow III missile defense system, and millions of dollars in development and funding.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION ‘LOSES’ HALF BILLION MILITARY WEAPONRY TO AL-QAEDA IN YEMEN

The Magazine Of Record For The Last Days
“The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem”
Joel 3:16

Ever Wonder How Al-Qaeda And ISIS Always Have Such
Advanced Weaponry And Military Capabilities?
Wonder No More! Obama Gives It To Them

NTEB News Desk — Pentagon officials cannot track the whereabouts of $500 million worth of military equipment the U.S. donated to Yemen since 2007 – raising alarms that the hardware may have ended up with al-Qaeda or Iranian-backed rebels.

Ever wonder how al-Qaeda and ISIS always have such advanced weaponry and military capabilities? Wonder no more! Obama gives it to them, that’s how they do it. Did you think it was a trick question?

U.S. officials said Tuesday that increasing instability in Yemen has made it impossible to keep tabs on donated equipment that includes small arms, ammunition, patrol boats and night-vision goggles, according to The Washington Post.

“We have to assume it’s completely compromised and gone,” a legislative aide on Capitol Hill, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Post.

In January, Yemen’s government was overtaken by Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels. The rebels are increasingly taking over military bases.

Since then, the U.S. closed its embassy in Yemen and the Defense Department has stopped delivering equipment to the country, including a shipment of $125 million worth of military products scheduled to be delivered earlier this year.

This is the equipment no one can find, The Post reports:

1,250,000 rounds of ammunition

200 Glock 9 mm pistols

200 M-4 rifles

4 Huey II helicopters

2 Cessna 208 transport and surveillance aircraft

2 coastal patrol boats

1 CN-235 transport and surveillance aircraft

4 hand-launched Raven drones

photo LeaSpeyer.jpg Lea Speyer, Breaking Israel News (BIN) — Israel has been providing the US with sensitive intelligence and satellite imagery on ISIS positions in the Middle East as part of Washington’s call on allies to assist in combating the radical Islamic terror organization, Reuters reported.

Israeli spy satellites have better access to the Middle East than those of the US. According to an anonymous Western official, the Pentagon has relied on Israeli imagery to “fill out its information and get a better battle damage assessment” in the aftermath of airstrikes.

Last week, US Secretary of State John Kerry called on Israel and other international allies to form an ad-hoc alliance to combat ISIS. The move came two days after a video showing the beheading of American-Israeli journalist by ISIS surfaced on the internet.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that more than 40 countries have expressed a willingness to join the US in combating ISIS, who have conquered vast areas of land in Syria and Iraq.

“What the goal of the coalition is, is to coordinate on the threat that ISIL poses,” Psaki said.

She explained that each country’s role would vary and not all would be involved in direct military support in Iraq. “There are obviously a range of capabilities or capacities that different countries have,” Psaki said.

The spokeswoman added that the main goal of the coalition is to cut off funding to ISIS as well as stop the flow of foreign fights and ideological support to the terror group.

In order to avoid conflict over sharing sensitive information with non-aligned countries, the report stated that the US made sure Israel’s role in gathering the intelligence was kept secret. Before handing over satellite imagery to Turkey and other Arab countries, all information linking Israel to the intelligence was cleared.

According to the source, the intelligence arrived “with the Hebrew and other marking scrubbed out” to avoid conflict.

The report also stated that Israel has passed along intelligence regarding Westerners who have joined the ranks of ISIS. The information, which was gleaned from international travel databases, have helped identify potential recruits heading to the Middle East to train and carry out future terror attacks.

“The Israelis are very good with passenger data and with analyzing social media in Arabic to get a better idea of who these people are,” the source said.

Israel’s Defense Ministry has neither confirmed nor denied any involvement in international efforts against ISIS.

‘PROVOCATIVE’ PUTIN REACTS TO U.S. PRESENCE

America’s Independent News Network
“A Free Press for a Free People”

Puts U.S. Warship On Notice
As Washington Moves Troops

E Michael Maloof, WND — (Washington) Russian President Vladimir Putin has begun to react to subtle U.S. military deployments in the periphery of Russia.

In an act deemed by the Pentagon as “provocative,” a Russian Sukhoi-24 fighter jet repeatedly buzzed the U.S.S. Donald Cook as low as 500 feet over a 90-minute period April 12 as the U.S. warship trolled the Black Sea in international waters near Crimea.

With enhanced Russian military presence in Crimea, the prospect of further provocations against ships and military aircraft from the U.S. and its partners of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is expected to increase, sources say.

In turn, such an episode would only increase Russian surveillance of Western military assets, possibly affecting their ability to conduct normal reconnaissance and intelligence-gathering operations.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon is considering the deployment of up to 10,000 ground troops to Poland to show U.S. commitment to allied security in the area.

After a meeting with Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak last week, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Poland would play a major role in the NATO buildup of troops in Eastern Europe “under U.S. patronage.”

Signaling a change in overall strategic defense policy, Hagel said the U.S. needs to “re-pivot back to Europe from Asia to confront “Russian aggression” in Ukraine.

One of the options for the U.S. is to move a 4,500-member combat brigade from Fort Hood, Texas, to Europe.

A forward contingent already is on the ground in Poland to oversee what may become a series of military exercises with NATO allies in the region. It’s a response to Putin’s apparent intention of taking over all of Ukraine and possibly other areas of Eastern Europe where there is a concentration of ethnic Russians.

The prospect has prompted concern among NATO countries in the region, which have assessed that the Russian military is stronger than all of their militaries combined. Consequently, the NATO members are hoping the U.S. will increase its presence to confront what they consider “Russian aggression.”

Regional sources have told WND that Putin’s motive is to set up buffer zones against the eastern encroachment of NATO, as Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia seek to join the Western alliance.

Putin, however, has reacted forcibly, in 2008 with the Russian invasion of Georgia and now the movement of Russian special forces into Crimea. The annexation of the peninsula came after a disputed referendum of its citizens, which are predominantly ethnic Russian.

The sources believe Putin will remain assertive in his determination to set up buffers while keeping out elements of NATO. For that reason, the Russian president last week reacted forcibly against the deployment of NATO anti-missile defenses, including the U.S.S. Cole, an Aegis-equipped missile warship, near Crimea.

Putin views the moves as a threat to the nuclear defenses of southwestern Russia, which include Crimea for the first time in Russia’s strategic doctrine.

The Cole actually was to head to the Ukrainian city of Odessa for a port call but canceled due to demonstrations and after Putin referred to the U.S. deployment as a threat.

The U.S. warship reportedly then pulled out of the area and headed toward Turkey and Georgia.

Russia expert John Helmer said that the use of the ships in the Black Sea is of particular concern to Putin.

A U.S. warship, the U.S.S. Mount Whitney, was in the Black Sea during the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, to assist Putin in counter-terrorism activities. But it also secretly monitored Russian reaction to demonstrations in Ukraine at the time that led to the ouster of its pro-Russian president.

The Mount Whitney is described as a floating headquarters for NATO strike forces aimed at Russia. It was present in the Black Sea during the 2008 Russian invasion of Georgia.

The ship has the capability of intercepting signals intelligence and listening in on Russian command communications.

According to Helmer, who said he was quoting European military observers, the actual purpose of the Mount Whitney during the Olympic Games was to monitor how far Putin’s attention was distracted by the Olympics “while the U.S. worked to transform the situation in Kiev, overthrowing the government of (Ukrainian) President Viktor Yanukovych, if it could.”

Putin was distracted by the Olympics, the Europeans believe, and so he was taken by surprise by the Feb. 21 coup in Kiev, prompting him to act first in Crimea to create the buffer against NATO. » Full Article

FORMER CONGRESSMAN: CONGRESS HAS LEGAL AUTHORITY TO ARREST AND JAIL LOIS LERNER

Supreme Court Has Previously
Upheld This Authority

Matthew Burke, TPNN News Editor — Former seven-term congressman from Oklahoma’s 5th congressional district, Ernest Istook, says that Congress has the “clear authority” to arrest and jail Lois Lerner until she testifies and says that is “the best way to end the stonewalling.”

Istook says there is “no better option.”

Lerner, the former head of the Obama IRS tax-exempt organizations unit, is a key figure in the targeting of Tea Party and other conservative groups, political opponents of Barack Obama. Lerner, part of what promised to be the “most transparent administration in history,” has twice refused to testify to Congress about the matter.

Former Congressman Istook, a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, wrote in his Washington Times column yesterday that no one believes “hyper-political” Obama Attorney General Eric Holder will prosecute Lerner and that his so-called investigation of the Obama IRS scandal is an “obvious sham.”

Earlier this month it was revealed that the Obama IRS targeting scandal runs much deeper than simple harassment. Emails obtained by watchdog group Judicial Watch indicate Lerner sought to use other branches of the Obama federal government, specifically the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to legally attack and prosecute Obama political opponents in order to silence them, effectively stripping away their First Amendment rights. Emails indicate Lerner was in coordination with Democrat politicians and the Department of Justice in the politicalization of the powerful government agency.

Istook said that asking the courts to enforce contempt proceedings against Lerner “would take years.”
We would witness delays and drawn-out court maneuverings that would be to her advantage while frustrating the public’s right to know. Those approaches would be passing the buck to the executive or judicial branches.
Istook said while Congress has the legal authority to arrest and jail Lerner, and the Supreme Court has previously upheld this authority, Congress has shied away from even acknowledging that the power exists:
Instead, the House of Representatives should use its inherent and historical power to arrest and confine persons it finds to be in contempt. The Supreme Court has upheld this power; this would not be the first time Congress confined someone to compel them to testify.

Yet most Capitol Hill discussion shies away from even acknowledging that this power exists. This reflects a misplaced timidity among some House Republicans who prefer to avoid political heat. And it reflects most Democrats’ disregard for accountability.

Ms. Lerner showed no such timidity when she supported imprisoning political foes of President Obama. She was not responding to proven wrongdoing; she was describing her unproven belief that conservative non-profits surely must be engaged in illegal politicking. As Ms. Lerner wrote in her email to the Justice Department, “One prosecution would make an impact.”
Istook cites prior Supreme Court cases which upheld the power of Congress to confine a witness like Lerner “until they provide the testimony demanded by the House or Senate” and can do so until she agrees to comply. » Full Article

WHAT’S GOING ON AT THE AIR FORCE ACADEMY? GOD’S WORD VS. PENTAGON’S WORD

Todd’s American Dispatch

“The Brave Cadets Who Spoke To Me Said
It’s Disturbing To Watch The Academy
Trample On The Constitution”

Todd Starnes, Fox News & Commentary The Restore Military Religious Freedom coalition, a group of two dozen like-minded religious liberty organizations, announced Thursday that they are ready to offer assistance to any Air Force Academy cadet who faces repercussions for writing Bible verses on their hallway whiteboards.

The Air Force Academy admitted Wednesday that a cadet leader had to remove a Bible verse he had displayed outside his dorm room because it offended non-Christians and could “cause subordinates to doubt the leader’s religious impartiality.”

The controversy started when a cadet leader posted a passage of scripture on his whiteboard with a quote from the New Testament book of Galatians. “I have been crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me,” the verse from Galatians 2:20 read.

Friends of the cadet tell me the young man had posted the verse several months ago and considered the New Testament passage as a source of inspiration.

Mikey Weinstein, director of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, told me that 29 cadets and four faculty and staff members contacted his organization to complain about the Christian passage.

"Had it been in his room -- not a problem," Weinstein told me. "It's not about the belief. It's about the time, the place and the manner."

He said the Bible verse on the cadet's personal whiteboard created a hostile environment at the academy.

"It clearly elevated one religious faith [fundamentalist Christianity] over all others at an already virulently hyper-fundamentalist Christian institution," he said. "It massively poured fundamentalist Christian gasoline on an already raging out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy at USAFA."

Exactly two hours and nine minutes after Weinstein complained to Air Force Academy Superintendent Michelle Johnson, the Bible verse was erased from the cadet leader’s whiteboard.

A spokesman for the Air Force Academy confirmed that the religious text was cleansed from the board – even though there is no specific rule against posting religious messages.

"The whiteboards are for both official and personal use, but when a concern was raised we addressed it and the comment was taken down," Lt. Col. Brus Vidal, Air Force Academy spokesman told me in a written statement.

Johnson said in a written statement that the verse was removed because there was a “potential perception” problem.

“The scripture was below the cadet’s name on a white board and could cause subordinates to doubt the leader’s religious impartiality,” the superintendent said.

The original complaint was filed by an unnamed cadet, she added.

“Another cadet promoted a discussion of appropriateness, according to policies that leaders will avoid actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to subordinates.”

Johnson said the Christian cadet “voluntarily elected to erase the scripture.”

Anybody else have trouble believing that?

The Christian cleansing of the Bible verse led to a small uprising among cadets. At least a dozen posted Bible verses on their personal white boards and some even went so far as to post passages from the Koran. Those verses were not removed, presumably because the cadets were not in leadership positions.

So I posed the following question to the Air Force Academy. Would they have directed a Muslim cadet leader to erase a passage from the Koran? The academy has yet to answer my question – but I suspect well all know the answer.

Retired Army General Jerry Boykin, now with the Family Research Council, told me the superintendent’s statement is an example of “politically correct double speak.”

“What about the rights of the Christian cadets who have a constitutional right to express their individual faith?” he asked. “If a scripture scares the faculty this much, then it is unlikely that they will be very effective when confronted by a committed enemy who is willing to die for his or her beliefs.”

Boykin accused the academy of violating the constitutional rights of the cadets.

“This academy should be training warriors who can deal with difficult situations and determined enemies,” Boykin said. “A scripture is hardly a threat.”

Several cadets reached out to me by phone and shared with me their grave concerns about how Christians are being treated at the Air Force Academy. They agreed to be interviewed, provided I did not reveal their identities.

“It’s been suggested that we keep our faith to ourselves,” one of the cadets told me. “It’s even too risky to go out into the hallway and talk to a Christian friend about your faith. It’s because there are people here who are so easily offended. If someone overheard us talking about Christianity, they could file a complaint. They could say we were having that discussion in a public space.”

“It’s gotten to the point where you can’t walk to class without stepping on somebody’s toes,” another cadet told me.

The cadets told me many of their peers are outraged over the anonymous person who complained to Weinstein’s group.

“Whoever did that, do so without even addressing the cadet first,” the cadet said. “It’s incredibly disrespectful to the cadet – going behind his back. Is that the kind of officer you want in the military leading people?”

The cadets said they are sick and tired of the “uber-sensitivity” that’s infected the academy.

“People are so apt to be offended by something that is totally respectful,” he said. “If you read the verse the guy put on his door – it’s a personal expression of faith. There’s nothing disrespectful about that at all.”

But the Air Force Academy may not agree with that assessment.

Both cadets told me that yesterday afternoon, they were told by their leadership to “be respectful with what you put on your bulletin board and what you put in public places.”

“The implication was that the Bible verse was somehow disrespectful,” the cadet told me.
Weinstein is vowing to take the Air Force Academy to court unless they punish every cadet who posted a Bible verse on their bulletin boards.

“This is an absolutely horrible, shameful disgrace,” he told me. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an open rebellion like this happening at any military academy. It’s like they’re sticking their middle finger up at what the academy did.”

Weinstein likened the posting of the Bible verses to racism.

“You cannot put a picture in front of your room of a white person whipping a black person,” he said. “You can’t put a picture of anything that’s denigrating outside your room.”

He also wants the military to consider court martial proceedings against the cadet leader who originally posted the verse from Galatians. He called the cadet a “fundamentalist.”

So how does Weinstein define “fundamentalist?”

“When they want to follow the Great Commission in a time, place or manner that violates the Constitution or DOD directives,” he said. “In this case, this is a perfect example. Putting those messages up are a violation of time, place and manner and that moves you into the fundamentalist Christianity perspective.”

The Restore Military Religious Freedom Coalition announced it stands ready to represent any cadet brought up on charges. The coalition includes the Family Research Council, Alliance Defending Freedom, Liberty Counsel, Liberty Institute and Thomas More Law Center.

“Suppressing religion is wrong whether it is done behind an Iron Curtain or in a dorm hallway,” said Gary McCaleb, of the Alliance Defending Freedom. “Certainly such raw anti-religious discrimination has no place in America’s Air Force.”

The brave cadets who spoke to me said it’s disturbing to watch the academy trample on the Constitution. They said the current state of affairs at the Air Force Academy can be summed up by a message someone had posted on their dorm wall.

“You can’t pick and choose what freedoms you’re going to defend,” the poster read. “You can either defend them all or you can defend none of them.” » Full Article
