THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

“NRA CEO and EVP Wayne LaPierre addresses the crowd at the NRA Members' Meeting in Houston, Texas. He blasts political and media elites for using tragedy to advance their political agenda and assures that NRA will never compromise on constitutional freedom. ‘LET THEM BE DAMNED!’: WAYNE LAPIERRE SAVAGES ANTI-GUN ‘ELITES’

“To the political and media elites who scorn us, we say,
let them be damned!”

“If the president had one clue about how to clean up violent crime, don’t you think he would do it in his own hometown?”

Madeleine Morgenstern, TheBlaze — National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre on Saturday launched a blistering attack against the so-called Washington and media “elites” whom he said just don’t understand America.

Speaking at the NRA national convention in Houston, the organization’s most visible figure acidly referred to “elites” more than a half-dozen times, painting them as hopelessly detached from the rest of the nation.

“The media and the political elites, they denigrate us and they cringe at the sight of long lines at gun shows around this country. They mock Americans buying firearms at a record pace…they don’t get it because they don’t get America,” LaPierre said.

After President Barack Obama said the NRA “willfully lied” to the American people about defeated gun legislation last month, LaPierre noted how Obama had tried to reassure gun owners during his re-election campaign.

“Liars? Really?” LaPierre said. “This from a man who spent his entire re-election campaign saying he supported our Second Amendment rights and would never try to take anyone’s gun away. And he calls us liars?”

2013 NRA Annual Meetings: Wayne LaPierre

NRA CEO and EVP Wayne LaPierre addresses the crowd at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, an event of the 2013 NRA Annual Meetings in Houston, Texas. He takes on the liberal media and “political elites,” such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and President Barack Obama, who have tried to demonize the NRA and gun owners. Originally aired 5/3/13.

LaPierre dismissed Obama’s calls for more gun legislation, pointing out that his hometown of Chicago has been suffering from a nearly unending wave of violence.

“If the president had one clue about how to clean up violent crime, don’t you think he would do it in his own hometown?” LaPierre asked.

He said Chicago ranks last in enforcement of federal gun laws, but that no journalist would dare question that, in part because they “still have Obama bumper stickers on their cars.”

Bringing up the recent manhunt for the Boston bombing suspect when residents were told to remain in their homes, LaPierre asked, “how many Bostonian wished they had a gun two weeks ago? How many other Americans now ponder that life or death question?”

“Lying in wait right now is a terrorist, a deranged serial killer, a kidnapper, a rapist, a murderer waiting and planning and plotting…no bill in Congress, no rose garden speech will ever change that inescapable reality. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!” LaPierre thundered, earning some of his most sustained applause from the audience.

LaPierre said the last few months have shown that the NRA is “truly at the heart of America’s heartland.”

“Nowhere does freedom live anymore than in our Second Amendment right to defend ourselves, our families and our nation,” LaPierre said. “Without that freedom we really aren’t free at all. There is nothing more good or right or normal in America than an honest American citizen owning a firearm to protect himself or protect her family.”

“They can try to blame us and shame us with all their might,” he continued. “We will never sacrifice our freedom on the altar of elitist acceptance. We will never surrender our guns, never!”

LaPierre reminded the audience that Obama vowed that last month’s gun bill defeat was only “round one.”

“They’re coming after us with a vengeance to destroy us — to destroy us and every ounce of our freedom…we need to meet them head-on,” he said. “We don’t care if it’s round one, round two or round 15. The NRA can go the distance.”

“To the political and media elites who scorn us, we say, let them be damned!” he said. “We will always stand and fight for our American freedoms.” » Full Article

NRA'S LAPIERRE: 'LET THEM BE DAMNED!'
Unloads On Political, Media 'Elites' For 'Illogical' Solutions To Gun Violence

VIA WND — Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the National Rifle Association, let loose against the media and government who have recently characterized the gun lobbyist’s talking points as “crazy.”

“Let them be damned!” roared LaPierre.

In a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, LaPierre accused gun-control advocates of offering “illogical” solutions to the problems of gun violence.

“They denigrate, and they call us ‘crazy’ for holding fast to [our opposition to gun control]. In their distorted view of the world, they’re smarter than we are; they’re special; they’re more worthy than we are; they know better than we do,” he said. “The liberal media can keep hating on me, but I’m still standing.”

LaPierre dismissed the Obama administration’s efforts to curb gun violence as ineffective and an infringement on Second Amendment rights. He described Democrats’ calls for expanding background checks as a “placebo” to which criminals won’t submit.

“There are only two reasons for government to create that federal registry of gun owners, to tax them or to take them,” LaPierre said.

LaPierre reserved his harshest criticism for Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security, which suggested in a recent Web video that citizens use objects like scissors when faced by an active shooter.

“Scissors? That’s their answer?” LaPierre exclaimed. “To protect our children at school, we recommend a trained professional with a gun, and they recommend scissors? And they say we’re crazy? It’s sheer madness.”

LaPierre has been the public face of the NRA in the wake of the mass shooting last year in Newtown, Conn., in which 20 children and 6 adults were shot and killed in an elementary school. He used his speech to once again express his support for putting armed guards in schools across the country.

“There’s not a mom or a dad anywhere who wouldn’t feel safer seeing a police car in parking lot when they drop their kids off to school,” he said.

He also blasted the “political advice” from “elites” in government who have proposed unconventional defense methods for women facing attacks.

LaPierre mocked Vice President Joe Biden for his advice that women fire a shotgun into the air if confronted by an attacker.

“Honestly, have they lost their minds over at the White House?”

The crowd cheered in approval.

“Keep your advice, we’ll keep our guns,” LaPierre concluded. “The one thing a violent rapist deserves to face is a good woman with a gun.” » WND: 'LET THEM BE DAMNED'

Wayne LaPierre’s Bold Claim About Universal Background Checks

‘That Registry Will Be Used to Confiscate Your Guns’

Erica Ritz, TheBlaze — National Rifle Association executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre continued speaking out against President Obama’s recent gun control proposals Saturday night, zeroing in on “the real consequences of background checks,” according to the NRA.

The organization has been targeted by many on the left in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary last December. While the NRA argues that more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens creates a safer community, many in the administration and on the left disagree, saying it leads to more gun violence and accidental deaths.

Most recently, the NRA has been publicizing a memo it obtained from the Justice Department that says the success of universal background checks would depend in part on “requiring gun registration,” and says gun buybacks would not be effective “unless massive and coupled with a ban.”

LaPierre began his speech with a reminder on why he believes it’s so important to counter strict gun control measures:
“The Second Amendment — it’s not just words on parchment. It’s not a frivolous suggestion from our Founding Fathers to be interpreted on a whim. It lies on the very heart of what our country was founded upon. Our Founding Fathers knew that without the Second Amendment, all of our other freedoms could be in jeopardy. [And] our freedoms are the very essence of America. They are what make America unique.”
Now, he said, we’re witnessing the single-most devastating attack on that right that “our country has ever seen.”

He discussed NRA proposals to make schools safer, noting that Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) admitted that she had gun control legislation in her desk for a year and was waiting for the “right time” to introduce it. In his opinion, many gun control opponents more about politics than they are proven solutions.

“Waiting for an unspeakable act to occur so the American people could be persuaded to buy her political agenda?” LaPierre commented with disgust. “It’s not about making our kids or our streets safer, it’s all about their decades-old agenda.”

He soon got to the heart of his speech: universal background checks, and what he claims they’re really all about:
“Don’t you be fooled. There is nothing “universal,” nor “reasonable” about it. They ought to stop pretending and stop calling it what it will never be. Criminals will never be a part of it, and I have come to believe that the adjudicated mentally incompetent [won't either]…This so-called universal background check that you’re hearing about is aimed at one thing: it’s aimed at registering your guns and, when another tragic opportunity presents itself, that registry will be used to confiscate your guns.”
“Imagine right now, your name on a massive government list,” he asked the audience, noting that it would be pretty “handy” for a drug dealer, thug, or criminal. “How safe do you think that government list will be?” he continued, noting the flood of personal information released this year by various media outlets on gun owners.

LaPierre proceeded to highlight other gun control proposals state by state, concluding with a word on how the Mexican government has asked the U.S. Senate for a registry of all gun owners in the United States.

“What is the point of that?” he asked.

“They have all the security they want,” LaPierre said, referring to politicians. “Our only means of security is the Second Amendment when the glass breaks in the middle of the night, and we have a right to defend ourselves…They don’t have the right to take that right away.”

“Was this what our Founding Fathers intended?” he asked. What Washington needs to do is recognize that Americans really have shared goals: they want their communities to be safer, and they will do anything to protect their kids.

Start focusing on that, he said, and “stop trying to convince the American people that all law-abiding gun owners are criminals in waiting.”

He concluded with an inspiring statement on how many gun control proposals have failed, and NRA members and Americans need to continue standing up and making their voices heard. He told the crowd to call their congressmen and senators this week, then sit down and write a hand-written letter, and follow up with an email.

“We will not be duped. We will not be demonized. And we will not be divided,” he said.

“As lawful gun-owners, we deserve nothing less than absolute respect as people that believe in our individual rights, believe in individual responsibility, believe in protecting our families, and believe in defending our country.” » Full Article
